The idea of not letting them land has been discussed, but unfortunately, it is not legal.
The reponse of the county government was to put up these webcams so that all of these activities would at least be visible to the public. It’s not much, but it’s more than any other local government has done.

I’m a quarter of the way through this tome, and it is revelatory…even though I’ve followed a lot of this history, names, players, etc., for years and it’s not unfamiliar. Really a must-read.
Authoritarians will stop at nothing to feel safe. Since they have no concept of public welfare and consider everyone an asset to be used and discarded, they will easily enter into a military conflict without a long-term strategy, regardless of the casualties it causes.
