Good stuff.
Good stuff.
I am so glad you said this! I was going to stay the same, then felt embarrassed about being so fussy about it and deleted my reply. Now I'm cross at myself for worrying about it.
Bet you I don't get anything half as pretty when it's my turn on Saturday.
We are finally ready to announce that EMF 2026 will happen on July 16-19, 2026, at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Herefordshire.
Expect more updates soon as we start spinning up the organisation again.
Saw this today on another platform β€οΈ
I'm pretty bad at keeping up with things on Bluesky, but when I came on here today and this was top of my feed, I will take it as a sign that I need to do better.

I have a lot of duck photos. This might be my favourite.
Hello to you! I think I've forgotten how to be sociable. I don't make it here much.

Off to London for the day for the BCS Convene Conference. Curious to see what will be there.
Just looking ahead in my calendar to next week and realising that I'll be in London on Tuesday for BCS Convene Conference.
Is anyone I know also going to be there?

Back in the lecture theatre teaching first years today. There's something special about teaching first years.
Usually I say that the worst thing about teaching is marking, because you get so frustrated about how they just didn't get the point.
This time the vast majority *did* get the point (and manage to state it).
Marking is still the worst thing about teaching though!
I keep saying this. I keep saying this. *repeat until death*
Oh no! Given how windy it is here right now, I'm not surprised. Trains to Sheffield appear to still be running (for now). Find a hotel for tonight then pick a museum to visit today?
I think I must have been on a starter pack too. Most of my follows seem to be from similar backgrounds. I really should make an effort to engage more.
My biggest problem is that I stopped using twitter ages ago and got out of the habit of posting. So I don't know how I've managed to attract the 200-odd followers I have here.
If you haven't already followed @themerl.bsky.social then you've the opportunity to make a fantastic choice!

Merry Christmas from Linzer who's been loving her catnip mouse.
Best part of Christmas has been seeing the joy my cat has got from her catnip mice.

Fab quote from David Chisnall on Mastodon about using GitHub CoPilot: The costs of the bullshitting far outweighed the benefits when it worked. To be better it would have to not bullshit, and thatβs not something LLMs can do.
Quite.
The billionaire founders of Virgin Galactic & Blue Origin had faith in their creations. Both flew in the first non-test flights of their sub-orbital launch systems. May the tradition continue! Cheers for the billionaire SpaceX founder flying on Starliner especially on its 1st flight to Mars.
