I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
2/ Maybe the lead is that the war goals DO NOT involve destroying Iran's nuclear weapons program. This is, uh...surprising...since Trump says over and over this is a key goal.
But then of course we already know air strikes can't wipe out their nuclear material.
3/ Second, they confirmed "regime change" is also NOT on the list. So, they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime - probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime - will still be in charge.
4/ Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.
But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?
They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.
5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.
Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.
“Be careful to separate your views on the politics of the Iranian regime from the legality and motives of the U.S. and Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran. The U.S. and Israeli governments do not care if Iranians have a democracy."

The normalization of Islamophobia in the US is so pervasive among right wing influencers that it warrants understanding to Germany in the 1930s when explicit antisemitism was spreading like a disease. The consequences are violent for the targeted group.
If disagreeing with a government’s policies or hating their leader becomes the norm for nations to justify militarily attacking other nations, then prepare for much more war and civilian deaths in the coming decades. And much less peace. (11/11)
Be careful to separate your views on the politics of the Iranian regime from the legality and motives of the US and Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran. The US and Israeli governments do not care if Iranians have a democracy. They care if the Iranian government becomes a client state to the US.
9. Israel intentionally killed Iran’s Supreme Islamic Leader Khamaini, which has now granted him the status of martyr among the hundreds of millions of Shi’ite Muslims worldwide. (9/11)
8. President Trump did not seek the authorization of Congress prior to his unilateral, unprovoked attack on Iran. (8/11)
7. American taxpayers will pay the billions of dollars it will cost Israel and the U.S. to unilaterally start and conduct a war with Iran. 7/11)
6. Iran responded to attacks against it by attacking Israel and the US under the international legal doctrine of self-defense. (6/11)
5. The US has nuclear weapons. This is not a valid basis for attacking a nation under international law, otherwise other nations would be legally justified to unilaterally attack the U.S. (5/11)
4. Israel has nuclear weapons. This is not a valid basis for attacking a nation under international law, otherwise other nations would be legally justified to unilaterally attack Israel. (4/11)
3. Prior to Israel and the US violations of the laws of war, Iran had not attacked either country nor was there evidence of an imminent attack. (3/11)
2. Seeking regime change, however authoritarian the regime, is not a lawful basis for a country to militarily attack a sovereign nation. If that were the case, then it would be legal to unilaterally attack tens of nations across the globe. (2/11)
To preempt the rewriting of history that will predictably happen in mainstream US media in the coming weeks, here are some key facts:
1. Israel and the United States unilaterally attacked Iran, a sovereign nation, without provocation or other lawful basis under international law. (1/11)
"Just like the Forever Wars, this fiasco is also birthing its own captive constituencies... from contractors supplying it to MAGA-adjacent young (and not so young) men signing up for ICE, which Ganz describes as 'an employment program for the Trumpenproletarian mob."

A U.S. official said American military strikes on Iran were underway.
Remember when Congress authorized the use of force against Iran?
Me neither.
Any U.S. attack on Iran would violate U.S. and international law.
Israel is pressuring Americans to pay in blood and treasure for its obsessive desire to go to war with Iran. Let the Israelis fight their own wars with their own army with their own money.

Obama: "The rogue behavior of agents of the federal government is deeply concerning and dangerous ... the sort of behavior that we've seen in authoritarian countries and we've seen in dictatorships, but we have not seen in America."
What’s so weird about men in power is how when they face scandal and should step down the world acts like no one else can do their jobs. Bottstein, Wasserman, these aren’t irreplaceable men! Stop with this delusion.
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.
Will it be national news? Will it cause performative outrage? Will he be censured?
Nope. Forgotten by tomorrow.
