Ha indeed and it’s fine when it’s the kids getting into lovely floaty ambient things or Gorky’s, less so when it’s yet another play for Linger or one of those fucking Moby songs that was on 6 ads all at once (he’s another weird youth touchstone - maybe it’s just Gen Z raiding their parents’ CDs).

Oh, I saw your reply to someone else re the Today FM listenership and the vote makes sense on that front but (could have been clearer) they also crop up alarmingly frequently on NTS Radio, which is your definition of Hoxton media (though I do love it as a station).

Makes me feel (i) about 103 and (ii) very depressed that the hipster kids have discovered the Cranberries & think they’re unjustly forgotten greats rather than MOR shite. (Also suspect if O’Riordan was alive she’d be full on wailing “I’ve been CANCELLED” terfy loon; she always had the worst vibes.)

I don’t have a PhD in philosophy but “imagine how hard it is for the models themselves to understand it!” is your definition of a category error which you’d assume is a concept she’s heard of.

But then she seems fully plugged into the effective altruism thing so maybe that’s rotted her neurons.

X-Plorer & Dee'Pulse - 2nd Round / Voices (All Versions) For Sale at Discogs Marketplace Buy and sell X-Plorer & Dee'Pulse - 2nd Round / Voices (All Versions) at the Discogs Marketplace.

Well it looks like non-battered copies are going for ten to twenty quid on Discogs (www.discogs.com/sell/list?ma...) so maybe you could flip it? (Looking at that pic though I’m not sure this copy would fall into “non-battered” territory though …)

Oooh, I started farting about with Ableton for the first time a couple of weeks back so would be very into this if you can furnish me with files?

Oh, it’s amazing (as are the sequels). I would also highly recommend Queen Of The Tambourine - every sentence just gleams, throwing off glints and thoughts and associations but never sacrificing clarity, always remembering that the purpose of a sentence is to elucidate. (Well, usually it is…)

Disappointed that “You’re Next” has an apostrophe in the right place tbh.

Knew of the Brandstetter books & this has reminded me to check them out; am starting with Fadeout.

Few that I really liked in ‘25: Frances Wilson’s Muriel Spark biog Electric Spark; M John Harrison’s Wish I Was Here; Outsider by Brian Sewell (a real portrait of a lost mid-c20th art world).

Pita - Get Out 3
Pita - Get Out 3 YouTube video by goshdarnchef

Have always loved this at deafening volume. When the noise kicks in it’s so harsh. Then it spends 10 mins developing in this gorgeous ambient wash with waves of fx melting into each other. (Also found out recently that the original sample is from Morricone.)

Some satire site had an article years back headlined “SMALL DOG VERY ANGRY ABOUT IT” and I think of it whenever I see some titchy barking terror - like Winston the dachshund who lives below us - kicking off (especially at a much bigger dog).

Oh, I have a region 1 DVD of this originally bought by my dad - assume he saw in on TV at some point in the 90s and made a determined effort to track it down. Amazing cast and so deftly handled. Might be due a rewatch.

Dance Me to the End of Love
Dance Me to the End of Love YouTube video by Thalia Zedek Band - Topic

Have you heard Thalia Zedek (Come, Live Skull etc.) covering Dance Me To The End Of Love? She’s got the perfect ragged voice for it and the keening fiddle is worn and woozy and glorious.

3 hrs, wow. We got a 15 min take on Indian Love Song which was just astonishing, plus some musings from Warren about being in Glasgow in the 80s and a rendition of the trad tune “The Muckin’ O’ Geordie’s Byre”.

Saw them in Glasgow on Sunday and we got that! Also - they played for almost two and a half hours and it barely felt like half that. Gig of the year. Sadly no Lidl Christmas jumper though.

RIP Mani - one of the best to ever do it and along with Reni on drums the real reason why the Stone Roses were so good. When they locked into each other there were few could match them. I think this might be my favourite: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEGN...

Getting more into shoegaze is good. Back then Swervedriver would have hated being called that. And right enough they were much more part of the Silverfish/Th’ Faith Healers/etc noise scene than Ride/early Boo Radleys/other Creation bands and so on.

Me and [redacted, not on bsky] were talking about this the other day - the green/red indicator being part of the light housing is probably a money-saving measure. Even if it’s totally antithetical to what people are used to.

Had tagged you because I’ve read enough of your writing to know that you would know this one. (Also you wrote one of my favourite things about the God Machine). (Also also we both knew Keith and I know he loved this too.)
