I FINISHED EDITS! 😭
I stopped being proud of this book last year. It felt like a story I was almost able to tell, but not quite. Like it had legs but didn't know how to run. These neck-breaking edits made me fall back in love with my OG characters.
Saturday snippet 👀 now I'm off to my editing cave. We're at 65k. Ambitious goal is to finish by Monday 🫣
Editing task: "let's extend this 🥵 scene by half a page or a full page."
Me: *challenge accepted*
Ends up with an almost 3k chapter and much LONGER scene than asked for.
Why do I have no chill lol
Me to my husband, about my edits: "I hit midpoint! Hopefully things will get smoother now and there won't be so many new scenes."
My husband: "What do you mean? It's your book. You decide if you put in new scenes."
"Don't be silly. My characters decide these things."
I realised I my characters push each other against the walls a lot when things heat up. I guess we all have our own "thing"...

This year, I signed with an agent & got vague publishing news.
But you know what I'm most proud of?
Writing a book out of my comfort zone and finding exactly where I want to go creatively 🩷
And not giving up. That's probably the most important one.
It's the one I told you where he's a real baddie - I just... Didn't expect the extent 😂🙈

I'm going to give another shout out to @rebeccaacarter.bsky.social because I sent off HUS to my agent and I'm so proud of this book now - which wasn't the case before Becca working on dev edits for it. She pushed me to make this story the best version of itself and just really grateful 🥺🫶🏻
The new episodes of Outlander are KILLING me. So bloody amazing - after a fresh rewatch and rather stilted part 1 of this season, ep 9 & 10 are keeping me at the edge of my seat 🔥
