Surprising no one who has been following this issue, the deeply flawed and misguided Online News Act continues to be disastrous for small news orgs in Canada. ⚖️
Yes perfect very good thank you
AI art isn't an issue I have particularly strong feelings about, but "no ethical consumption" doesn't mean all consumption is equally unethical, and it's still okay to be outraged.
So grateful to have another platform where I can see these majestic creatures!
As a Canadian lawyer, the American grand jury system has always been perplexing to me. It seems like a colossal waste of resources that only serves to give a veneer of legitimacy to what is actually just an exercise of prosecutorial discretion. ⚖️
Why does @bsky.app have so much trouble generating link previews?
Today's episode of NPR's Code Switch podcast has a great discussion about the injustice of the parole and probation system, including alternatives for how to approach community supervision (or abolish it altogether). ⚖️
After a few days on Bluesky, I have come to accept that I don't like chronological feeds. I keep having to unfollow interesting people because they post too much and dominate my feed, and I'd rather have an algorithm give me a selection of skeets from different sources.
Which podcasts? Any recommendations?
I only want to see pictures of the Cybertruck if it’s hilarious or embarrassing or on fire so I guess what I’m saying is yeah go ahead and post pictures of the Cybertruck
Definitely. Appellate courts have very high standards for attention to detail!
Hi Bluesky! Now that there's no news on Facebook, I figure this will be my place to talk about current events and legal stuff. If you want leftist commentary on legal issues, follow along and I'll do my best!
The best in-depth analysis I've seen on the issue is from Michael Geist, and you can find all that content here.
The Online News Act is a fundamentally flawed law that provoked an entirely predictable response from the platforms and ultimately serves only to undermine journalism and public safety. This recent CJR article gives a good summary. ⚖️
Letter from BMI to Vivek2024 informing the campaign that Marshall Mathers ("Eminem") had removed his works from the license that the campaign had obtained and that they were to cease and desist use or performance of Eminem songs.
⚖️ A few weeks ago, someone on Bluesky was surprised to learn that artists can remove their works from the blanket licenses granted by ASCAP/BMI. The attached letter shows how it was just done by Eminem to prevent Vivek Ramaswamy from using and/or performing Eminem songs on the campaign trail.
