New plan. When any president decides to go to war, his children of draftable age should be drafted and be stationed on the front lines, even if there isnβt a draft

Makers of Claude deserve our business after refusing to allow the Pentagon to use its AI for surveillance of Americans or in fully autonomous weapons. Chat GPT makers immediately said "we'll allow that". Chat is now spying on you for the gov. Delete your data on Chat GPT, cancel and move to Claude

Fun little paper we published last month got picked up by earth.com. The author got it mostly right. There was no press release so he seemed to go above and beyond and read the paper and some citations in it and used references. Nice work. #scicomm π§ͺ www.earth.com/news/antarct...
I think I'd be quite happy if AI capability was frozen at this level. It is a handy tool now, but does not want to exterminate us yet. Nevertheless, I'm always very polite when interacting with it just in case... #scicomm π§ͺ

Can we just get real here. When you hear people like our president say "Democratic Cities" that is all of the largest cities in the U.S. Cities are Democratic by nature. Here are the data for the current top 10 #politics
This is a cool little piece on the cause of our current cold/stormy snap and how these events are actually connected to planetary warming - in particular the warming of the Arctic #scicomm π§ͺ www.preventionweb.net/news/how-pol...
Putin and Jinping are loving this, and counting the days until they can grab any land they want and claim copycat immunity.

I'm watching Fox News right now. I try to do it here and there. I think it's important. If all Fox viewers were required to watch MSN for 25% of the time and vice versa - problem solved.
How long before U.S. heath protocols and vaccine schedules start affecting travel? Only a matter of time before traveling with proof of measles vaccine will be required to enter countries that still understand science #scicomm π§ͺ #vaccines
Incredible so few people have this on their radar. In February (knock knock) we are sending humans to the moon (to orbit and come back) for the first time since Apollo over 50 years ago. #scicomm π§ͺ #space #moon www.nytimes.com/2025/12/30/s...
The oldest building around these parts. Scott's Hut built in 1902 to support his first attempt at the South Pole. It was on this expedition that he discovered the dry valleys across the McMurdo Sound and made some observations we still use today in our science. #scicomm #Antarctica #history π§ͺ
A-Hut, the original building of New Zealandβs Scott Base in Antarctica, built by Edmund Hilary in 1957. Picture taken from the bar in the modern Scott Base which is soon to be torn down because of its age and rebuilt (Hilaryβs Hit will remain untouched of course). #scicomm
Thanksgiving dinner at Lake Hoare Camp in Taylor Valley, Antarctica. Good food and good company. There was a pie per person (but many left overs) #antarctica #science

Landed yesterday at Phoenix Air Field (NZFX) near McMurdo Station Antarctica. I will be headed to the McMurdo Dry Valleys for research from here for the next month or so. Follow along #scicomm
Starting my 29th expedition to the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica. First leg is home to Christchurch N.Z. There for 3 days (plus or minus) then head down from there. Will be posting here as much as I can. #scicomm π§ͺ
Found this old photo. Late 80s, Canadian High Arctic near Eureka (Ellesmere Island). I was on an ATV, and this guy just trotted behind me at the same pace no matter how I sped up or slowed down. No aggression at all. To this day I wonder - if Iβd stopped, would he have just licked my face?

But the triple bypass and 8 stents saved your life before you changed diet (and I am plant based as well). Also all the access youβve had throughout your life to modern medicine.
The statistics are not necessarily incompatible. Degrass-Tyson said half the population died by their thirties. That is not the same as average life expectancy
I eat organic, avoid processed foods, and load up on veggies, - but modern medicine, treatments, drugs, and vaccines are what truly extend our lives. That other stuff gives a little booster. Science matters. Watch this short videoβit nails the point. www.youtube.com/shorts/mEOeC... #scicomm π§ͺ
So short sighted. At a time when Russia and China are growing their ice-breaking capabilities because they get it, the U.S. is in denial of what is happening on the planet. #scicomm π§ͺ www.science.org/content/arti...
