Complaints If you have a complaint about the editorial content of a newspaper, magazine or periodical in circulation in New Zealand (including their websites) you may complain to the Media Council.

Fucking grim to see many in our media taking their headlines directly from Minister Brown instead of what the *publicly available* report actually says, that "New Zealand had among one of the best pandemic responses in the world."

Even the US media (FOX besides) aren't this lazy and servile.

The playbook is to run public healthcare into the ground, say we can't afford to fix it (which will be true because we spent the money on tax breaks for landlords and tobacco companies), then sell people's resulting desperation to the private sector in the name of "innovation" and "efficiency".

The RNZ piece is particularly brutal, all the knives are coming out at once

So they did bomb a school and kill hundreds of girls. That's what NZ is trying not to condemn.

This is a profound continental divide. Canadians overwhelmingly view other Canadians, even those unlike them, as being good people. Americans, more than any other country, view their neighbours and fellow citizens as bad people. Anti-Americanism flourishes in the United States

I'm conscious of my biases here but I believe Polanski would easily outperform Farage in a two-horse race. Of course it won't be a two-horse race and it's anyone's guess how Labour might perform post-Starmer.

Haven't looked into it but a quick Google, if Statista is reliable then age-based demographic shifts should favour Greens. But I'd expect the impact of Reform voters "greying out" over two years to be statistically negligible compared to other factors.

If polling trends continue the 2029 election will see the first UK government not led by Labour or the Conservatives since the 1920s.

That makes me feel tremendously hopeful, because at this juncture in history we really do have the knowledge and means to build a world where everyone can thrive.

But it's waking people up to the fact that *we* can do better. To start imagining the world that we would create together. Because the world these blinkered billionaires are trying to make can't withstand collision with reality. It's going to be on all of us to pick up the pieces.

But when all can plainly see the terrorism being perpetrated by the most powerful men in the world, the scaremongering rings hollow.

There's so much suffering and cruelty in the world and things may get worse before they get better.

People power beats sheer economic power. The only thing holding us back is the belief that it isn't possible. Hence the ruling class are terrified every time people prove that it *is* possible, & put so much effort into smearing real leaders as terrorists, as a threat to our way of life.

in the decisions that determine our shared future, instead of looking up.

There are many encouraging signs around the world. Zohran. The recent election of Hannah Spencer, a local Mancunian plumber, as an MP in the UK Greens' first ever by-election win.

On the plus side, the more unbridled their power becomes, the more their ineptitude and cruelty is laid bare for all to see.

We must disentangle ourselves from the deranged ideology that turns our struggles under this rigged system inwards, that makes us doubt our own right to participate

This chaos is the consequence of choices made by a handful of sociopathic billionaires who believe that their success proves their superior fitness to rule. Success on the terms of a system which puts short-term personal gain above all.

The potential for this conflict to spiral is enormous, as Iran lashes out flinging missiles at anyone in the region with a US military presence (& international airports). It will be incredibly disruptive to global supply chains which unfortunately still depend on cheap Middle Eastern oil.

We should shed no tears for the Ayatollah whose regime recently machine-gunned ~30,000 civilians in the recent wave of anti-govt protests. Iran deserves freedom from tyranny. But you can't bomb a country into democracy.

The best opposition the Democratic leadership can muster is complaints about strategy, while our own absolute potato of a PM shamefully issues a statement in support of the action.

As shocking as Bush's 2003 invasion of Iraq was, he did the Constitutional bare minimum of asking Congress (who said yes) and tried to follow international law by asking the UN, before ignoring it when they said no.

In '26 Trump just starts slinging missiles.

FPP plays a large part, but also the tramplers have managed to convince a significant proportion of the trampled that their salvation will come not from abolishing trampling, but from getting a foot on the trampling ladder.

Despite Labour's best efforts to split the vote and hand victory to Reform in Gorton & Denton, it's looking like the UK Greens are on the cusp of an historic win 💚

Can't wait to issue a 'move on' order to this government

26.02.2026 04:34 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

This government seems constitutionally incapable of making positive progress. Many months of hard work thrown under the bus along with one of their few capable Ministers (a low bar granted) all because Luxon is too spineless to stand up to a handful of Epsom NIMBYs and their pet MP. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Rolling agencies together doesn't fix silos. It just moves them inside and organisation where they'll be less visible and accountable. It also makes the government of the day less accountable for resourcing each of those functions properly, which in this case appears to be precisely the point.

The left tried for decades to pass green energy subsidies, passed them, the subsidies worked, and now literally the entire planet's electricity grid is going to convert to solar+battery. It just doesn't feel like "tech" because it mostly produces kinda boring blue collar jobs instead of billionaires
