Thanks, I'll keep the name in mind!
If you're interested in recommendations for more historical stuff, there's this guy on youtube (AGreatDivorce) who does video recordings of Brett Devereaux's essays from his blog A Collection of Unmitigated Pedantry, they're really fascinating

That sounds very interesting, thanks! Even if as you said, a whole continent and large time period in 45mn... I'm not familiar with Betwixt the Sheets either, or with that many English language history podcasts tbh ^^ any good recommendations?

That was such an interesting read, thank you for sharing! I really like how "realistic" it feels, with the telling of history being used as a tool of propaganda, edited depending on the current ruler.

Oh but fear not, that information will not only be sold and data mined but also poorly protected and will inevitably be leaked, making it easier to usurp your identity as well!

Oh, I'm curious how things are translated now ^^ like, are the "warrens" called "garennes" since that would be a direct translation, or something else since mages aren't rabbits? I was planning on re-reading these books, maybe I'll read the French translation instead this time.

Unfortunately I don't think a bluesky post that's basically invisible would grab their attention, so I guess it's time for me to email the publishing ADs I've worked with and be a complete nuisance π

About the Brando Sando book? @evelasco.bsky.social confirmed that it's a thing!
About Malazan books with in-universe illustrations, I've been daydreaming about those ever since I posted my previous messages... with different styles depending on the cultures and goals of the artists, etc., etc.

Nice, thanks for letting me know!
And yessss, with a slow transition from epic depictions of proud military officiers and acts of valour during skirmishes to incredibly personal sketches on cheap paper showing little moments of life, brutal survival, death,...

I really like the dynamism of your lines, it works especially well for a monk π
(also now I want to draw my own D&D monk, but she's an elderly librarian wood elf who's very proper so she wouldn't look that cool, alas)

I love this Bluesky tradition of sometimes reviving previous trends for no reason :D
There's a lot of amazing art in the quote chain, btw.
And my own painting is from 5 years ago, I feel old.

Thinking more on Malazan, we know there are propagandist-painters following these armies, so even if Duiker himself didn't draw someone may have documented the whole Chain of Dogs events on dwindling materials... having the illustration style mirror the story would sooo cool (in a heartbreaking way)

Random thought, but: I'd love to create a full set of "in-universe" illustrations for a book. Whether it's Feyre's drawings in ACOTAR or Ormulogun's paintings for the Malazan army or anyone else's, I don't care, it has so much potential!
(dear special edition publishers, please hire me to do that)

I hope you get to see them too :)
Tbh buying an interrail train ticket and visiting Scandinavia in winter is still very much part of my plans, now that I've seen some small auroras on the northern horizon I want to see bigger ones fill the sky!

Oh no...
It's weird you didn't see them despite being further north than me, really I'm afraid that must be due to BRETON REGIONAL SUPREMACY!!!!! TAKE THAT VIKINGS!

There were a lot of city lights and buildings in the way, so it wasn't *that* amazing, at first I was wondering what was wrong with these glowy clouds XD but still! Auroras!

I knew they'd look less saturated than on photos (because night vision and city lights), but what really surprised me was how quickly they moved/varied in intensity. I thought they'd be slower ^^
I'm still hoping I can watch them fill the sky in Scandinavia some day, of course :)

Rememeber when i said I'd love to see the auroras some day? Well I did!!! Last night, I saw them dancing in the sky from my window (in Brittany, France). The conditions weren't ideal because I live in the middle of a city, but still! Auroras! I'm so happy ^^

And thanks so much for writing it! When I built my portfolio it took me soooo long to find advice in various places online, to look at other people's websites and list what I wanted to do on mine... so putting all that info in one place, seen and organized from an AD's pov is amazing for new pros!

I've already reposted Nala's portfolio guide in every single art discord I'm part of at this point, but since they also shared it here: it's great! Read it! A lot of professional artists (and all aspiring artists who want to do this as a job) can benefit from it!
