ICE agents reveal daily arrest quotas and surveillance app in rare court testimony Under oath, officers said they were told to make eight arrests a day and given special tech to help choose ‘targets’

When a federal judge (finally) put ICE officers under oath, they admitted that they are given daily detention quotas and rely heavily on a Palantir-supplied AI tool to select targets, without warrants and without enough evidence to obtain one. They simply go into neighborhoods and round people up.

Obamas, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush Among 1,500 Books Banned in Texas School District Barack and Michelle Obama have joined the ranks of banned authors thanks to a sweeping ban of 1,500 books from Texas Hill Country.

All book banning is wrong but I’m kind of tickled by the idea that they’re protecting the youth from political memoirs. pen.org/1500-books-b...

In an Intense Election Year, New Post Office Rules Could Trip Up Voter Registration A change in how mail is postmarked could lead some voters to miss key deadlines, including voter registration. Advocates worry the people most affected will be those already facing voting barriers.

“Any mail that’s getting dropped into a blue box is not getting postmarked on the same day, and likely not on the day after either,” says the leader of a postal workers’ union.

This could have tremendous implications for voting:

Medicare Advantage 'dark money' group tries to win higher payments for insurers What appeared to be a surge of grassroots support for higher Medicare Advantage payments was actually driven by a pro-industry group.

"Judging by >16,300 commnts rcently posted on a fed govt website, you'd think there was a groundswell of older Americans demanding that fed officials hike payments to their Medicare Adv health insur plans" ~83% comments are identical to a lettr from an insur industry group

DHS agents are still here in our community in plain clothes scouting out immigrant owned businesses on Central, knocking on neighbors doors, swapping out licenses plates in cars without registration, and driving dangerously in our community.

Ticketmaster parent Live Nation settles DOJ antitrust case Live Nation Entertainment settled with the U.S. Justice Department in the middle of a trial on claims the Ticketmaster owner illegally dominated key parts of the live-events industry, the DOJ said on...

The Trump DOJ gave Ticketmaster a sweetheart deal that keeps their monopoly intact & does nothing to stop their ridiculously high prices & fees.

The deal was so good, their stock price jumped 6.2% after the news broke.

Once again: Trump's putting corporations over consumers.

I did see that.😑Driving can be soul-crushing, avoid if possible. Ornery is good. Plenty walk/take bus/trains. Some stops are safer than others depending on the time. Not having a car when you're getting around at night in certain areas can be dicey. All depends on when/where. No car is doable.

Self-Guided Tours - LA Conservancy Take historic tours on your own time!

If you're interested in "power of place" type tours, LA Conservancy offers some good walking tour ideas, tho imo they can tend to lean more toward architectural conservation. They also hold guided tours, some seem to be better run than others. All interesting tho! www.laconservancy.org/tours-events...

Certain areas are known for specific architecture, so many to list. Lots of history too hidden or hiding in plain sight. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNyR...

If you like walking, in addition to locating a neighborhood with sights/sounds/amenities that suit your interests, you could hike Griffith Park, maybe check out the observatory. A fun walk might be a guided/unguided tour of LA's so-called hidden stairs.

Sorry to hear that part was not fun. Would have to know what interests you(eg museums, shopping, history, hiking, a specific cuisine or architecture)to suggest an area. Exploring specific neighborhds indepth is better than driving place to place. Was there an area from your walk that interested you?

If you need to make the trip again, you can also take the train till it ends then pick up the 720 rapid bus. Whatever works for you.🚶🚆🚌🚗

Depends on where you're trying to go, if you require public trans, etc. Stuff like sidewalk width, parkways, speed limit, shade, curb bumpouts, street-level amenities make a difference. When a neighborhood was built (pre-1950s) makes a difference. If you feel like sharing, where did you like walking?

Gosh, don't know how to answer that, since every stereotype exists somewhere in small social circles, I suppose. If you never leave your tiny circle, that's your truth. Shallow, superficial, image-/fame-/celeb-/exclusivity-obsessed,etc--most of the town isn't like that. Certain images sell, I guess.

Study suggests most Americans would be healthier without daylight saving time According to a new analysis by Stanford Medicine scientists, changing clocks twice a year disrupts circadian rhythms, leading to higher rates of stroke and obesity.

"By modeling light exposure, circadian impacts and health characteristics county by county, the researchers estimate that permanent *standard* time would result in some 300,000 fewer ppl having suffered from a stroke & result in 2.6 million fewer ppl having obesity." med.stanford.edu/news/all-new...
