I should add the ham is from the leftovers at Christmas. Yes, I froze it. The beans can represent coins and wealth and/or humility. To add sweetness to your life sprinkle brown sugar or drizzle syrup over it. Cornbread makes a good filler for the stomach. Helped extend meals in long, cold winters.

A family tradition I grew up w/is having a meal of ham& beans on #NewYearsDay. My German grandmother said it was b/c pigs don't walk backwards, you start the year moving forward. (They root forward for the record.) None the less the joy of the memories keeps this dish on my table!
