It was a great privilege to present our work on #extracellularvesicles and #T1D at the Human Islet Research Network Annual Meeting
π§΅(5/5) Together, this work opens a path toward minimally invasive biomarkers of neuroinflammation. Excited to apply these tools in different neurodegenerative diseases and patient studies. β¨
π§΅(4/5) miR-146a-5p emerges as a consistent marker of pro-inflammatory activation across mouse + human iPSC microglia π§« and is detectable in microglial EVs during acute neuroinflammation.
π§΅(3/5) Using our new ExoMap1 mouse π , we detect microglia-derived EVs in plasma for the first time. This lets us directly track CNS-derived vesicles in vivo.
π§΅(2/5) First We find that microglia release EVs and non-vesicular particles with distinct Ξ±2,6-sialylation and small RNA signatures π§¬that change with their activation state.
π§΅(1/5) Neuroinflammation drives many neurological diseases π§ , but we still lack good non-invasive biomarkers. We asked: can microglia send detectable signals into the bloodstreamπ©Έ?
