Agree in principle. I canβt afford to pay ~Β£50 a year for more than a few peopleβs thoughts. And there are times when geopolitical writers should take precedence, others when itβs cultural, etcβ¦

What a superb book by @ianleslie.bsky.social, and great to have the Spotify playlist whilst reading. So many familiar songs listened to in a different light.
I saw this on Friday and agree with every word here

Cover of the book βJohn & Paul A Love Story in Songsβ by Ian Leslie. Lennon and McCartney sit together on railings looking at each other.
Just finished βJohn & Paul A Love Story in Songsβ by @ianleslie.bsky.social
I canβt put this well β¦ a profoundly beautiful book that brought back many memories of childhood listening. Memoriesβ¦but I heard the songs anew.
Finished it, listened to βHere Todayβ by McCartney, rarely felt so moved.
You put it very well and it's lovely to read that, thank you
Thatβs great. Going big.
'John and Paul: A Love Story in Songs' by @ianleslie.bsky.social is the best book about the Beatles I've ever read and I've read them all! Highly recommended for super-fans and casual fans, alike. Illuminating and deeply moving. (note: the Audible edition performed by Chris Addison is superb).
Thatβs very kind, thank you! Agree on Chris A.
Clocked this in Dalston last night.

am reading the @ianleslie.bsky.social book on John & Paul and itβs a real page-turner, am enjoying it so very much
Great to hear that, thank you!

Aled Maclean-Jones (free to read) plus a bumper Rattle Bag from me, with thoughts on Starmer's persistence; those "AI is taking all the jobs' posts, and more... www.ian-leslie.com/p/bodies-beh...
βFor Bakhtin, the classical body is closed, smooth, complete: the ideal we present to the world. The grotesque is open, rough, imperfect: who we actually are. You cannot have one without the other. The contradiction makes the whole.
From this unholy union comes truthβ¦

This is magnificent!
I tried to make this point in a (bad) undergraduate essay on Middlemarch in 1993 but my supervisor didnβt buy it. I feel seen!

My TED talk on why an βarms raceβ is the wrong way to think about AI is now available online.
In it I argue:
(1/n)
He almost certainly wonβt get into parliament this side of an election
100%. I'm totally bemused by talk that this has made Andy Burnham stronger. It's where vibes collides with actual politics. He's been the main character for the past few days, and months, (vibes) but is definitively not going to be an MP when only MPs can challenge Starmer (actual politics)
I can't see how this is anything but a bad outcome for AB (who admittedly didn't have good options). Whether his 'legend' grows or not he is now shut out of any leadership challenge this side of an election. bsky.app/profile/gaby...
Right but he would have had at least a 50% chance of winning it (according to polls/those who know the seat). He's now got zero chance - and therefore zero chance of becoming leader.
