If you’re looking for a good “oh no I need to know more about Iran” book, I’m really enjoying Abbas Amanat’s “Iran: A Modern History” thus far.
This reminds me of something Toni Morrison wrote.
Rather than treating repeat violence as incident frequency or individual risk, we analyse it as a cumulative, relational process shaped by inequality and institutional response.

This book is messing me up. Published in 1966, but originally recorded in the 1930s, its the diary/ analysis of a Jewish journalist under nazism that recorded her own and her friends’/neighbors’ nightmares as they began to slowly reflect the anxieties and images of life under fascism.
