Wait…you’re not here??😩
Wait…you’re not here??😩
I’m gonna be digesting this quote for awhile. (From “Practicing the Way” by John Mark Comer)
Viewpoint: Political interference in the medical profession threatens evidence-based standards of care and the autonomy of health care professionals. https://ja.ma/4iuXJZ5

By this point, NIH lawyers were grim in their prognosis. If the agency moved forward with slashing indirect cost rates, they explained, individual staff members could be prosecuted for failing to comply with a congressional directive. On February 10, Sean R. Keveney, HHS’s acting general counsel, sent a memo to Flick Melanson that included a directive in bold, italicized font: All payments that are due under existing grants and contracts should be un-paused immediately. Two days later, Lauer, the extramural-research director, issued a memo authorizing his colleagues to resume issuing awards—what should have been the agency’s final all-clear to return to normalcy. Even then, the staff remained divided on how to proceed. Some institutes immediately began sending out awards: Lauer’s email spurred one institute, a current official told me, to process 100 grants in a single afternoon.
The leadership and staff at the NIH institute who processed 100 grants in an afternoon are heroes. www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...
Fond memories of 2024. Myeloma woMMen docs making a difference. Get ready 2025! 😜😘
NIH Director, Dr. Monica Bertagnolli exits stage left…
Having served in the lead role since November 2023, kudos to Dr Bertagnolli for setting a research agenda for the 138 year old institute that considered the health issues of ALL Americans. Thanks for your selfless service @drjunejd.bsky.social
I had this hilarious dream last night. I was dying, but it wasn't sad - more like in the Disney movie Coco, going across a flower bridge. I'm halfway across the bridge and I stopped cold and yell, “Wait I've still got econsults in my Epic inbasket!"
My toxic trait is making sweeping assumptions about someone’s character by how they drive in a grocery store parking lot.
Life in America will be better for everyone when we divorce health coverage from employment and acknowledge that health care is a right, not a privilege

So I’ll enter the arena again. My non-academic SIL asked Why?
Great❓what are my motives? I joked that it was since Mr Dr Wildes is already Full Prof & that chafed. But I do think partly I still want to Prove that I Am Enough.
So my plan is to proceed with packet while also working to not want it.
2025 hopes: Promotion to full professor? As I sit in a small town cafe in Northern WI, I hear the words flung at me 8 years ago before Assoc “You’re not ready.” Those words burned my world down & made me rebuild it all, finding my identity in who I am (a child of God) rather than what I’d done.
It is well with my soul…
2024 was relentless and, quite frankly, horrible. I found some healing this AM. May the Hope that is Christmas rest on you as well. ❄️
If universities want to retain female faculty they need to deal with the people who create hostile workplaces.
That means actually dealing with sexual harassers, assholes, bullies, and every else who scores high on the dark triad.
If not, you will lose your best people over and over again.

One of the most concerning things to me about #AI is how confident it is even when it has no idea what it’s talking about. Who’s training the AI? 🤔
Just one example: behold the radius, the ulna, and a spare?

I’m an introvert who will be spending Christmas in a 3BR lake cottage with 10 people and am contemplating if people would notice if I made myself a little nest in the furnace room to escape to…

This is why I ❤️ my new city:
Omaha is COVERED in ice & shining bright with kindness today. Ice storm hit last evening while teens at a 🤖 tourney. Took us 90 min going 5-15mph to get them.
One of their friends 🚗 got stuck - couldn’t make it up hill & an Omaha resident took him in for the night. ❤️

19 years after my very 1st ASH, this introvert finally figured it out: I’m not heading home exhausted 1) said no to everything that wasn’t an immediate yes in my mind when invited 2) didn’t do any big social events that I find draining 3) paid attention to my internal 🔋🪫/change plans when necessary.
