Great list!
I would also add fazing out gambling advertising
Election funding reforms
Lobbyist reforms, know who sponsors them to get into Parliament House and who they meet with
Thanks for sharing your thoughts @sallylawry.bsky.social
This letter in the post is a good summary of how many people in curtin including myself are feeling.
Back page of today's post newspaper.
This stuff happens when a party is so hollowed out that it can no longer function rationally or cohesively. They are not a serious party, let alone a viable alternative government, and βpolicyβ like this is a leading indicator their collapse.
Last election, the Coalition ran a campaign claiming independents were powerless and could achieve nothing.
This election theyβre complaining independents are too influential in their advocacy. π
Hereβs SOME of what theyβve achievedβ¦

Keep up the good work! Iβm in curtin. We had a great result last election and are all working hard to see it happen again!
Do you have a voices of/independent group in your electorate? If not, try to start one!
We will do our best!
I agree. Season 1 was a bit slow at first but it just got better and better!
Yes it's a lot. The Gabba is old and not a great long term option. A new stadium can service Cricket and AFL for the next 40 years.
Change in government. Sounds like the best option to me.
If the cross bench can hold more power in the lower house next term, Australia will be the winners!
"Politicians are really the only people out there who can get away with lying in their advertising."
"I think that's a real miss from this Government."
@helenhainesindi.bsky.social on the need for truth in political advertising laws. #auspol

Australia, next year we get to vote on our next Federal Parliament.
This Honest Government Ad is a hilarious primer, covering why you can't "waste your vote" in Australia, donation reform, minority government and more.
@thejuicemedia.bsky.social nails it again. #auspol

Are you frustrated with the Labor/Liberal duopoly's electoral reform spin? Can you trust these two parties to do what's best for Australia's future? Please consider signing Lambie network petition.

Teal/Community independents rely on their massive army of volunteers more than money. The reverse of the Palmer situation. The decrease in funds which can be spent on a campaign will hurt but as long as the army of volunteers show up and support the election efforts I think they will be ok.
SMH headline that Teals furious at stitch up on campaign finance reform
Anybody who believes the two parties are part of the problem in Australian democracy should be furious. A cynical, self-protecting act of aggrandisement. Would that we had an ACCC equivalent in #auspol to call this rigging to account.
if farrellβs plan works, libs will eventually wake up broke, with buyer's remorse, without palmer in their trenches β and community independents will have harnessed their people power to stay in the game.
senior libs & nats not smart enough to realise they are being played.
#OnePartyDemocracy?
We need electoral reform, but not in the form of a stitch up that favours the 2 party system and locks communities out of democracy. The governmentβs electoral reform bill needs proper scrutiny. Watch. Part 2.
Deleted my twitter/X account. Feels good!
I am Dr Sue Chapman, Community Independent Candidate for the federal electorate of Forrest.

Labor and the Coalition have just joined forces to vote down the referral of the newly introduced βElectoral Reform Amendment Bill 2024β to the βJoint Standing Committee on Electoral Mattersβ for inquiry. No scrutiny, no public input! #DemocracyFail #auspol
I haven't watched a counter go up like this since Covid.
While the transparency part is long overdue, replacing political donors with taxpayer $ locks in the 2 party system. The ALP and LIB βelectoral reformβ deal needs proper scrutiny- rushing it through threatens future political competition. #auspol #electoralreform
How about banning gambling ads! Something you could actually implement, with community support and that would protect children!
Duopoly - pls call it for what it is so. Penny might drop for people then
