Excellent, I tโs about time Sabotino got the recognition it deserves. Who wrote the article?
The route of General Josรฉ de San Martรญnโs expedition
Aconcagua
Excellent! Another idiotic idea for a bike ride in the footsteps of an epic historical event โฆGeneral Josรฉ de San Martรญnโs expedition across the Andes in 1817 to liberate Chile. And when Iโve done that, I can climb Aconcagua.

What in the name of God is this shit? FFS, I canโt tell you how much I hate this crap.
I know what you mean about Amazon, but it may be your only option. Iโm not sure what the situation is regarding overseas distribution.

Book about the search for the identity of a soldier killed in an avalanche in WW1, called โUnder a Blanket of Iceโ.
Map of the avalanches in Vallon Popera
The Vallon Popera nowadays
My book about WW1 on the Italian Front.
This new(ish) book is fascinating. Itโs about the search for the identity of a soldier who melted out of the Popera Glacier in 1983. He was killed in one of the avalanches that overwhelmed the Italians on November 9, 1916. You can read about these extraordinary events, in English, in #TiTM.

Well, he looks more like a sheriff than an engineer.
My Great Grandparents at the family home in Bristol, with my Great Aunt and some random child
Spending the day curating the family archive. I thought my Great Grandfather was a captain of industry, turns out he was Wyatt Earp.

+1 for Fonck
They had a unit out in Serbia in 1915, run by Daily Express journalist Anna Christitch and her daughter. US war correspondent Fortier Jones accompanied the Christitch Mission on the retreat to Albania (Oct - Dec 1915) and writes about them in his book โWith Serbia into Exileโ.
Could be!

An intriguing cast of charactersโฆSerbian Secret Service, a City gent, two lost children, a bloke with an eye patch, a spiv, and Dr May Berry. St Margarets Church, Westminster, December 6, 1917.

Yes, he looks pretty cheerful considering what he went through.
Admiral Troubridge
Vera Holme
Two British veterans of the WW1 Serbian campaignโฆAdmiral Ernest Troubridge, commander of the British Naval Mission, and Vera Holme, an ambulance driver with the Scottish Womenโs Hospital. They look remarkably similar.
Itโs a great memorial, but I still prefer the French 69th Division one on Mort Homme.
Ha! Henry wasnโt, but three batteries of British naval guns were.
A very skinny looking Fitch, after the Retreat
Fitchโs route from Belgrade to Salonika
Nope, I will not be sidetracked by Xenophon. Instead I am concentrating on Lieutenant-Commander Henry Fitch, RN. He took part in the Great Retreat from Serbia in 1915, travelling 630 miles in 52 days. Exhausted and emaciated, he was one of the last Allies to make it through to Salonika.
You can read about it here
I suspect it would take too long to be a practical proposition, but I do like bike adventures.

I remain unconvinced that EvF set out with the intention of bleeding France white. He only mentioned it after the battle, and his tactics point to a more aggressive intent.
My favourite is the one I wrote. Does that count? ๐
