The Prudhoe ice dome disappeared during a warm period 7000 years ago. Global warming could cause similar temperatures by 2100, showing the Greenland ice sheet’s vulnerability
Earth and Space Research (ESR) has a new look! Yesterday, we launched our redesigned website, including our new logo!
The new site highlights ESR’s long-standing commitment to open data access, while also introducing Spotlights on people and research topics.

How to Avoid A Climate Disaster
1. Ignore Bill Gates on climate
2. Repeat #1

Since Bill Gates is back in the news dismissing the urgency of climate action, here's my evergreen commentary in @newsweek.com on why his approach and framing is so misguided: www.newsweek.com/right-path-f...
We’ve been on a journey to close the gap of fragmented workflows, lost credit, and disconnected tools. Our new platform turns scattered outputs into dynamic, connected and reusable research components.

Let's go Bluesky - my first quote from a post - thanks!
“The end of NSF and American science expertise as we know it is here,” wrote Paul Bierman, a geomorphologist at the University of Vermont, on Bluesky. 🧪

Congrats to Yong Wang from Washington State University!
🚨 The Trump administration is attempting to seize power beyond what the Constitution allows—giving Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, unchecked influence.
As a federal scientist, expert, or civil servant, you have rights. Don’t let them bully you.

It’s a bit hard to concentrate right now, but if you need some good news, check out what my amazing colleagues are doing at Troll Station in Antarctica! This is what collaboration delivers!! Happy people doing good things!
To put this in perspective, $288M is only 0.07% of Musk’s current net worth. Yes, definitely “on the cheap”.
If anything, RFK, Jr. permanently ended impostor syndrome. After today, no one should ever feel unqualified for anything, ever.

Things are happening in the austral summer! Our team will be traveling soon to Troll Station to install the Integrated Cloud Observatory! Check out our website at troll-observing-network.github.io/integrated-c.... The most recent blog post shows the cargo ship docked to the Fimbul Ice Shelf!!
With 17 days to go until the US takeover by the new Trump (or Musk?) administration, I thought it might be worthwhile to share a number of recent papers published by our team that counter arguments that have been leveled against misinformation research. 1/n
We spent the past year analyzing and rebuting arguments that have been launched against misinformation research. In my view, those arguments are important to make, but perhaps even more important to rebut because, as we show, they don’t always withstand critical scrutiny.
So here we go: 4/n

At the beginning of my career (late 80s), I built a radiative transfer model to understand the implications of decreased ozone in springtime over Antarctica; MS with the great Conway Leovy. Really amazing to visualize this now in so much detail!
Ozone hope? The 2024 ozone hole closer to the historical average in size and duration than the previous years. Does this signal progress towards recovery?

More than 90% of fossil fuel emissions occurred since my parents were born.
Over 80% since I was born.
Over 30% since my children were born.
And well over 50% since the world agreed at the Rio Earth Summit to prevent dangerous climate change. And I thought: „At last!“
