Hugo, that black and silver miniature schnauzer has photobombed a picture. His face is right in the camera, far too close and a bit blurry, he is licking his nose and lips with his tongue. There is some grass, heath and trees to the right of the photo behind him.

Whitby, St Mary's. Ear trumpets on the pulpit of 1748. They were fixed there in the early C19 for the benefit of the Rector's wife, who was deaf, and were connected to her ears by rubber tubes.
Well done πππΎππ

Agreed!
The Witching Hours - by Gloucestershire based artist, Fiona Owens, whose work I love. Her book 'Weeds in the Heart' is absolutely stunning.
More by this artist, here: www.johnandfionaowen.com
This was meant to be an advert for our new book - DH Lawrence and the Gypsies, by the Romani writer John Pateman, but the vardo (horse-drawn trailer) rather steals the show.

A Eurasian Curlew stands alert in rough grassland dotted with white seed heads, its long, downcurved bill clearly visible as it scans its surroundings. A species of peatlands and wetlands, the Curlew is shown in habitat typical of the wild places at risk from weakened nature protections.
URGENT: our most precious wild places need your voice. βΌοΈ
The Prime Minister is considering weakening the laws that protect nature.
Estuaries. Peatlands. National Parks. The places & species we love are in the firing line again.
All on the false assumption this will speed up nuclear projects.

And Peggy does a stout job with shivering timbers, jib-booms and bobstays, barbecued billygoats and galoots.
Fabulous adult characters too. And food.
Have a fabulous chat about it all.
Swallows and Amazons Forever!
Love this book. Have a great chat. Dick and Mr Dixon are a lovely pairing. I miss Nancy but she's still a huge presence in the book. Favourite quote is from the Dr. - but I've known Nancy for some time now, and I said I'd rather know nothing about it. And Nancy doesn't grow safer with age. π pg 183
