I got to hand both of the pieces to the Kiln team at Day of the Devs yesterday. We played a bit of the demo and I, of course, loved the character creator portion. Can’t wait to smash more pots when the game is released!
Fragments of a yellow and orange vase are arranged on a piece of cardboard that shows evidence of spray painting with an orange paint.
The fragments have now been assembled into a solid yellow and orange vase that shows the Kiln logo.
The second piece of Kiln fan art was inspired by @bterrormisu.bsky.social
who suggested I also make a “breakable” vase. Jeff helped me slice and print a 3D model I found. The various pieces are held together with magnets and sanded/painted to look like one of the characters from Kiln’s key art.
The shino turned out beautifully with metallic flashes, orange glow, some crackle in the glaze, and dynamic carbon trapping. A bit too much carbon obfuscating the logo (shino does as it pleases!), but I'm still practicing being ok with whatever comes out of the kiln.

The other side of the same vase has the Double Fine logo. This side predominantly has the orange and white colors of shino with a bit of metallic spotting and crackles in the glaze.

The top of the vase shows the purple-reddish band around the rim that leads into an opaque white with crackles. A geometric pattern is shown throughout these bands of colors.
First piece was a traditional pot made with the shino and oxide high-fire reduction technique I've been working on. It was the perfect chance to try more complex shapes with the Kiln & Double Fine logos.
I like games and I like pottery! So my chaotic brain decided it wanted to make some fan art for @doublefine.com’s upcoming game, Kiln, with less than a week to prep before my favorite event of GDC, @dayofthedevs.org.

Oh, that helps. I remember having to do a deeper inspection than expected to figure out which flavor it was. Color coding didn’t help when I didn’t know what it was to begin with. 😅
