The thing that may finally cause me to become a turnip farmer is my tv making me dismiss a notification to watch Ted, the show about the horny Seth MacFarlane teddy bear. I have to take an action, press a button, to tell my tv no before I am allowed to move on. This is not what the future should be.

The internet now implores us to binge as a default behavior: to watch whole seasons of TV at a time, to watch every football game simultaneously in quad-box fashion. Weβre prompted to keep talking to the chatbot for answers or companionship; to let the AI agent accomplish task after task until we have built a website in an hour; to obsess in relentless, completist fandoms or go down rabbit holes. Total bombardment is partly a surrender to the internet and its logic and algorithmsβa kind of attentional death in which a person is no longer overwhelmed because they have given up. You could also see it as an attempt to hold their footing as the zone floods with shit. Because everything is happening too much, too fast. More.
There is a cost to all of thisβa flattening of every event, feeling, and piece of art, commerce, joy, and suffering into the same atomic unit of attention, all of them easily replaced by what comes next. The worst, most shameless people in the world already understand this and use that cold logic to their advantage. You do not need to justify a war if you believe that, ultimately, people will lose interest in it and move on to the next outrage.

Pete Hegseth's manly act is backfiring
MAGA bros hoped the defense secretary would make them feel butch βΒ with Iran war, he embarrasses them
"In the abstract, itβs easy to convince a lot of people that itβs the height of manly fortitude to extol your own sadism as loudly as he does.
"In practice, it looks not just immoral but pathetic: killing little girls and not even having the guts to admit it."

Pete Hegseth's manly act is backfiring
MAGA bros hoped the defense secretary would make them feel butch βΒ with Iran war, he embarrasses them
Pete Hegseth thinks his butch drag is convincing. It was, at least for the MAGA bro crowd, for a time.
But now that he's waging an idiotic war on Iran, a lot of his fanboys are freaking out.
It was all manly role-play! They didn't want a real war!

Founders don't waste time with "maybe this hasn't been tried because it's obviously a bad idea," they go straight for "I came up with a genius solution no one else thought of because I am special and all my thoughts are prophecies"

I love the "could this be a solution" post because it's a perfect example of Founder brain. You have to be a special kind of stupid to imagine that you are the first person to come up with the idea of driving around the Strait of Hormuz. It's being so dumb that you think everyone else is even dumber

Palantir CEO Makes Shocking Confession on Disrupting Democratic Power
Theyβre saying the quiet part out loud now.
"Palantir CEO Alex Karp says his AI technology will lessen the power of βhighly educated, often female voters, who vote mostly Democratβ while increasing the power of working-class men."
Just saying it right out loud now.

The killing of schoolchildren should shock our conscience and cause us to recoil in horror.
A nation whose leaders can so easily shrug off the death of children, no matter the cause, is in need of moral repair.
There must be accountability and lessons learned from this tragedy. And we must never forget that Iranian children, too, are children of God.

to offset the taint of my GnR memory:
Bad Brains, dingy LI nightclub, 1989(?). did not know a thing about them got talked into going by a friend who was trying to get with a punk girl he liked. they came on around 3am. life-changing performance.
Will Calhoun and Muzz Skillings were in the crowd.

Gun n' Roses, Nassau Coliseum, 1991 (laugh it up). at their peak, not yet a punchline, but known for drama, lateness or just flaking out. after the opener (Skid Row?) i think we waited three hours before they came on. that utter disrespect for their fans killed any appreciation i once had for them.

wild to me that "the genocide people" β as in, those who wanted to put a stop to the genocide in Palestine β is being used as a pejorative here.

Certain dudes are still upset with me when I said in 2012 that here in the US, being a straight white male is living on the lowest difficulty setting of life. From here on out I'm just going to refer them to these DOGE staffer depositions, and then tell them to go fuck themselves.

cover to Marvel's AVengers Unlimited Infinity Comics #009, featuring War Machine, Ironheart and Iron Man taking aim at something off-page
I've been loving Storm under the guidance of writer Murewa Ayodele, and have been chasing down all his work. I just read issues 009-013 of the Avengers Unlimited Infinity Comic he did with his frequent artistic partner Dotun Akande. Not a fan of the Infinity format but this did not disappoint.

There is no force in the universe that is demanding human death and which we are trying to appease and negotiate with.
Do not accept the premise that these bigots set forth, which is that *somebody* has to die and theyβre just trying to mitigate the unavoidable.
They are *choosing* to murder.
