Exactly what it says on the label: The Pope in 1982. He's wearing a black hat, dark RayBans, and looks like he's a member of the Blues Brothers.
What's from Chicago, hates Illinois Nazis, and is holy as fuck?
It's the Pope in 1982.

I take a different approach, buoyed by Staples's scholarship on the terms "Jew" and "Israel" (starting at pm 82): www.academia.edu/resource/wor...
Because "Greek" is not a synonym for Gentile, but represents a non-Jewish Israelite, who some might consider still under the law of circumcision ... (5.2.1, "The Group Marker “Greek” and Circumcision," pg. 101)
Jew and Greek: Paul's Intra-Israelite Debate in Romans www.academia.edu/144022717/Je...
In #Acts15, the Jerusalem Council agrees that Gentiles do not need #circumcision. So why, in the very next verses ( #Acts16 :1-3), does Paul have Timothy circumcised, not b/c his mom is a Jew, but b/c his father is a "Greek," typically equated to "Gentile"? 1/2

Just posted my master's thesis (completed in May) to Academia.edu, in which I challenge the traditional conception of Paul's audience in Romans. Enjoy!

Busy weekend - glad to be done with this milestone.
Amulet found in a grave in Frankfurt, w/ Latin inscription of foil inside that includes the hymn from Phil 2:10-11. Discovered in 2018, it is dated to the early third century and is the earliest evidence of the Christian faith north of the Alps. Inscription read using computer tomography.
Raymond, can you expand on this? Reads like a subtweet, but I haven't caught up yet... thx
What - no theologians?
Following now. Congrats! So, from that summary, are you proposing that ALL the Pauline letters are pseudonymous? Or did I misread that?
We have a cover!!! The Oxford Handbook of Biblical Monsters is in production. We tried to put together articles that would foster a dialogue between traditional scholarship and more contemporary monster/horror. Now it's waiting, and preparing for the fun that will be proofing and indexing.
Hi, Bluesky! I'm a #historian writing about #religion, #politics, & #popculture. My book "God Gave Rock & Roll to You: a History of Contemporary Christian Music" (Oxford University Press) explores how the #CCM industry shaped #evangelicalism in the US & beyond.

A group of researchers have recreated the clothing of medieval Nubian royalty and clergy from the wall paintings in the cathedral of Faras, which sits at the border of modern Egypt and Sudan.
Could still be some loopholes...
LOL. What a section to quote from my latest article! I’ll post a link to the open access article below if you want to know more than you ever thought you’d want to about Paul, penises, preputial skin, & why he isn’t polemicizing against Judaism/Jewish practices per se in Galatians & Philippians.
I'm too anal about hitting all of my salient points, so I always edit to fit the time reqt. Agree w/ the 2 minutes per page rule of thumb, as long as you remember it is a rule of thumb.
Prime biblical studies/classics/baking/dad joke crossover.
TIL that "skeet" is the Bluesky version of a tweet. Can't we do better than this?
Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.
Here's mine:
1) Jewish audience in Romans
2) righteous proselytes = Israelites, gate proselytes = gentiles
Already preordered mine. But it's not out until January, so I can't give it to myself as a Christmas present...
Yesterday was TATIR Tuesday - just released Part 6 of our live performance of Romans, "To All Those in Rome." This segment includes Romans 12-13. Of course, these are the two shortest chapters in the letter, so this clip is only 7 minutes long. youtu.be/VzRoFKsTnHQ
Here it is - Romans 9-11 in all its Old Testament quoting glory! The back- and- forth of the dialogue portrayed in this stage version may make you reconsider any thoughts you have about the "heart of Romans"...

I know everyone is getting ready for next month's conferences, but any rumors on whether SBL will do the Global Virtual Conference again next year in March?
You see, you need stone from the site to which you plan to teleport... Wales and Scotland are represented, now where's the Irish stone?
It's not a competition, but if it were... 3 guesses where I fall on this spectrum, first two don't count
The 4th segment of my live presentation of Romans dropped today (chapters 7 and 8). I told someone today, don't watch it as a cinematic experience; think of it as cosplaying your Bible study.

I'm here for it. Plus, I'm a Hokie, so I get to experience bits of Blacksburg through this psychic connection.
Romans 5-6:22 below. Posting in roughly 2 chapter segments on Tuesdays. Next up this week, Rom 6:23-9:5.
