British traditional beers like bitters, ales, milds and stouts are a bitterness mid point between US craft beer and continental European beers in terms of bitterness. Continental beers are generally much maltier and often sweeter.

The Herengracht in 1670 by Jan van der Heyden. He was v. into urban improvement (invented street lighting!) & often inserts extra trees into paintings to beautify the scene. Today is his day.

An article from the Financial Times that reads: “UK to further curtail rights of asylum seekers. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will tighten rules on access to accommodation and financial support.”

We have a once-in-a-generation chance to replace a cruel, broken asylum system left behind by the Tories.

Instead, the government is doubling down on dehumanising policies that will needlessly ruin lives.

We visited pubs across the country, from the desi pubs of the West Midlands to a Rochdale Wetherspoons with pitstops at rural pubs and many more.

It includes a family story taking us from my Great-Granddad's pub in Tanzania to my Dad's pub in Southall and back to the Midlands via the Punjab.

As @lslothuus.bsky.social - an actual expert - says: "As an academic born and raised in Denmark who researches and writes about Danish politics, I can confidently say that Cowley has no idea what he’s talking about. The piece is full of factual errors and falsehoods."

The racist framing of this in “blaming Muslims” and the use of “hatred” when it’s not just Muslims who are outraged about Labour’s support for genocide is why Labour are losing

I mean one day Labour will realise Muslims and/or people who oppose genocide are millions of voters. Today is not that day

At least 3 of these can be characterised as AI eating the foundations upon which an expertise hierarchy is built. We’ve done this on a lesser scale with things like outsourcing in the past, with bad long term results.

Yes, and this has become coded into UK political discourse since the fantasy of Brexit started becoming the reality of Brexit: sunlit uplands became 'a price worth paying'. For what?

Saltburn had a cheekiness about it that was fun, but I did think the script was a load of old wank. WH as a book can do with some of that as it is a little silly despite the author's earnest intentions.
