a top down picture of a group of people being kettled by police, with the aim of 'calming the group down' - or raising the temperature of the space enough to justify an arrest.
π²βοΈ I'm working on an idea for a game centered around street-level protesting, focusing on the use of and countering of shady police tactics like kettling, snatch squads, secret agitators, etc etc. I'm looking for book/resource recommendations documenting these tactics around the world. Any recs?

Game developers' library did an episode on it recently, if you want an overview
Still recommend reading it as it used the medium brilliantly to get its point across

ELIZA's creator was so alarmed by the fact that people mistook the chatbot for a sentient being that he wrote an entire book about why this implementation of computer technology was a huge problem and it is a staggering achievement
Working on a fun little side project about imagining the future of a city through genre lenses. What are some sci-fi / speculative fiction genres that are instantly graspable from a simple header? Terms like "cyberpunk," "solarpunk," "space opera," etc.
Waterworld, mad max?
The rules and rulesets you create don't have to answer to people who don't choose to use them. They have to answer to the people who do choose to use them.
For anyone whoβs interested in this stuff; here are a bajillion game devs discussing how they playtest games, and why they do it that way

A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work to prevent the acquisition of the former with the same urgency and ruthlessness we use to prevent the acquisition of the latter.
A graphic with a large yellow banner in the middle announcing "Live on Kickstarter! We've Always Been Here: A queer historical zine." The bottom text is in a rainbow gradient with little rainbows framing the box. Above this is a mockup of the book's cover alongside some page mockups, and the bottom half features three other illustration previews.

The famous MISSION ACCOMPLISHED photo of George W. Bush on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in 2003, after announcing that major combat operations in Iraq were complete. Which they definitely were, with no ongoing, drawn out, years-long conflict claiming hundreds of thousands of lives, nor costing trillions and tying up resources both logistical and diplomatic that might have been better used elsewhere in the world. And certainly not causing some historians and cultural commentators to suggest it may even have enabled and emboldened other nations and leaders, potentially creating some of the international crises of our current era. No, the invasion of Iraq definitely worked out okay and didn't cause decades of problems. There's certainly no link to an increasingly unchecked Putin, the rise of ISIS or further regional destabilisation.
Never forget.

The best thing you can do in light of the Ellison takeover of Warner Brothers invest your time, energy, and money in supporting independent creators and independent distribution networks and independent venues. It is absolutely crucial to make independence a viable option.

I co-ran an Immersive Makers Jam on Monday, and one of the things I said at the top of the day, to everyone, was that it was a no-AI event: generative AI was not to be used for the process or the end product.
Participants spoke to me after about their relief at this being made explicit...
