A tragic ending is not inherently any more "mature" or "realistic" than a happy one. To believe otherwise I think says more about you and your outlook on the world.
There is plenty of room to explore the tragedy, the vice, the injustice that exists in this world in the realm of art, but there are many people I feel who only find comfort in being told "the world is a vampire, life sucks and then you die," and believe that feeling to be intellectual stimulation

it's also pretty transparent that they're targeting gambling in video games while funding massive sports betting enterprise and also taking bets on actual atrocities with loosening restrictions on both. it's about the control of media, not protecting anyone and it almost never is
can't be emphasised enough that no matter how empty Valve's defense of lootboxes sounds, the lawsuit is also a trojan horse to censor violence in games so it's not a good idea to side with it lol
Spaces for kids have been destroyed or re-worked into stores, adult spaces aren't allowed to be actually "adult" lest we anger the CC companies, and supposedly neutral spaces are full of gambling/porn ads, disinformation, and right-wing pipelines. An internet that is increasingly not for anyone.

Macrae: The fourth monster in Ms. Pac-Man is named Sue, which is my sister. I always get to joke about that with her a little bit. I worked really hard to make sure I could name a monster after my sister. It was a great way to take an inside poke at her.
The new orange ghost in Ms. Pac-Man, Sue, was named after both (of GCC) Doug Macrae's sister and (of Midway) Stan Jarocki's daughter, Susan.
Susan Jarocki would eventually make her own mark on the video game industry as part of SNK's leadership in the 1990s.
