Oh and as for people labeling themselves as such. I think they know what they're doing and it's simple marketing. Desperate men want the fantasy and women who want easy work want those desperate men for as their audience.
I don't think it's more destructive than any other fantasy but the danger is always when people convince themselves that because a trope is common enough to be a trope, that it somehow represents an actual phenomenon. You can't count on your alcoholic mommy-dom to save you and you won't save her.
If there is any simple answer to it I think any way to qualify a female character as vulnerable has appeal because it makes them feel obtainable. There is ironically a sense of security in the idea that the object of your affection is as desperate as you are.
