It’s hot out there (again), and is still only June. Be kind the natures natural pest controllers. Our resident hedgehog has been very thirsty over the last few weeks. A dish of water is gratefully received.

White shouldered house moth (Endrosis sarcitrella). In our own home. I think they just appear to wind me up. They breed continuously. Foodstuffs include dried fruits, cereals and other seeds, potatoes, rotting wood, insect specimens, wool and old textiles and are also associated with bird nests.

Shiver me timbers! Took our portable microwave unit to the coast today to investigate heating some ancient timbers infested with Death Watch Beetle. Went well I think.

It’s Spring and all those larvae that have survived the winter will now be emerging as adults. Variegated Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci) adults do no damage but may be found on windowsills as they try to escape to the outdoors where they will feed on pollen before returning to breed.

Last Friday we had a trip up to Lancashire to the Conservation in the North meeting at Bolton Museum. A very busy day. Thanks to those who joined the pest management behind the scenes tour.

When surveying wool lined roof spaces for textile insect pests, especially in large historic properties, be sure to check all innocent looking hatches. There may be more to a loft than meets the eye. #Narnia #biggerprojectthanithought #clothesmoth

I can never resist hunting the insect monitoring trap when in a Museum or country house. They are not always looking as you would expect them. #MuseumTrap
