Photo of Central Park, a snowy walkway with many footprints, edged by snow-covered trees and hedges, with a glowing street lamp.
Central Park yesterday about 5:15, when the wind was rising:
Born #onthisday in 1868, the US sociologist + civil rights activist W. E. B. Du Bois. Celebrate with a look at the stunning hand-drawn "infographics" he made with his students, depicting conditions of African-American life in 1900: publicdomainreview.org/collection/w... #otd #BlackHistoryMonth
what a joy to listen to
Also a good reminder that many of Toni Morrisonβs novels (including The Bluest Eye and Beloved) are available as audiobooks *read. by. the. author* π₯Ή
A common fictional narrative shows people with nonconforming identities finding self-acceptance in towns and cities.
This #LGBTQHistoryMonth, archivist Lottie Wood explores how author E. M. Barraud found the opposite, through rural work and the Womenβs Land Army.

I used one of these the day before Feb break to show (truly! a curriculum-related film!). At 2:30 I dashed to the car. When I got back, it wouldnβt fit out the door. π± One of the custodians said the old cart was too weak so theyβd replaced it with a bigger one IN MY ROOM without measuring the door.

Menopause is a natural stage of life that affects millions of women across the country.
But too many of us canβt access accurate information & care, leading to discomfort & health disparities.
With @demwomencaucus.bsky.social, I am urging HHS & FDA to strengthen & expand menopause research.
The Rouge Plant was a routine elementary-years field trip for Detroit area schools when I was a kid. Red hot ingots the size of a refrigerator passing in big pincers as we ran to the protected area of the catwalk. Itβs probably tamer/more protected now (apart from the heckling). π

Wow. I am in an out of the house situation which I hoped would give me space to read this properly without interruption, but not quite yet through the *introduction* I keep stopping to process. Professor Mitchellβs work is stunningly constructed and vital. More later!

In 1958, Black art was not being shown in Detroitβs major institutions. Painter Harold Neal and his contemporaries started a collective of Black artists who created their own opportunities, marking the unofficial beginning of the cityβs own Black arts movement.
Breslau Codex (WrocΕaw, Stadtbibliothek, MS 1302, s. xii ex./xiii in.), f. 82ra, showing tear in the page but only the very edge of the text in the inner gutter.
Oh wow! This is what happens when you're photographing MSS & don't capture the text in the inner gutter. 1st, here's the photograph (made about 100 yrs ago) of the Codex Salernitanus, f. 82ra. Although that big tear of the page is obvious, the inner gutter hasn't been fully captured in the photo.

Changed my life. They were so bad Iβd throw up from the pain a couple of times a year. I had an Rx anti-prostaglandin, but it was near-useless for me because it had to be started a certain number of days before, and mine were irregular. Then ibuprofen: twinge, take it, go back to what I was doing.
