A 5x3 array of book cover images, featuring Martha Wells (Murderbot) and Daniel Keys Moran. You can only see book covers, there's no other text, but at least the space is fully used.
A 1x10 line of small book cover thumbnails, with the name of the book and the author's name in small print besides them. 90% of the screen is blank. This is much less content than the grid view.
Does anyone ever actually use Apple's Books app on the desktop? Asking, because here's the grid view, and then the list view. Why, why isn't the list view all text and much more information dense?

You can barely see the head of fawn (baby deer), asleep, so small that it fits under the plants.
This time the baby deer is awake and perhaps looking at the camera. Still very small.
SMOL. Fawn napping underneath mayapples.

ICE Arrests Mississippi Father at His Citizenship Hearing
ICE arrested Kasper Eriksen, a Mississippi father, at his citizenship hearing, imprisoning him and threatening him with deportation.
When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen.
Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison.

My kids and I were wondering about rules here. Do they have to be inanimate objects? If you use animals, does that imbue them too much with the traits of the animal (e.g. bedbug, squirrel, cephalopod)? Are more syllables better (refrigerator, azalea) or is two the sweet spot (spigot, football)?

βThe rise in treasury yields since Trumpβs tariffs were announced leads to an increase in US debt interest payments that is larger than all the DOGE savings.β

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings.
Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that.

Itβs all smoke & mirrors.
What disturbs me is how many decades Republicans have managed to pull off this βfiscal conservativeβ masquerade to a never-questioning public.

I think itβs something of an open question what a good deal looks like. Enforcement mechanism against impoundment is tricky on account of: itβs already illegal.
but at minimum DOGE has got to go.

Just saw my CPA to do my taxes this week and he was freaking out about DOGE firing 6000 IRS workers during tax season. ("where do they think the money comes from!?")
I should have told him to call Congress.

π Trump in remarks to the House GOP just now promises no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime + an extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts.
That is, at minimum, an $8.95 TRILLION increase to the national debt for a tax bill.
So far, no talk about paying down the debt.

So here's what's cool about my job:
Yesterday morning I said, "We really ought to have TWIN PEAKS available." So then a bunch of people scrambled, worked really hard, and now you can watch every episode of David Lynch & Mark Frost's original series for free on Pluto TV: pluto.tv/us/on-demand...

Great idea - I'm sure we are not alone here.
I've heard plenty about block list subscriptions, but I agree that has to be dynamic. I thought I saw a post yesterday indicating that the Bluesky team was aware this has become a problem.
