Sex Differences in Stroke Care and Outcomes: A National Stroke Registry Study | Journal of the American Heart Association
SSNAP/KCL #strokeaudit findings in JAHA: Despite better 1βyear survival, women were less likely to receive timely stroke care and had worse functional outcomes, highlighting the need for more equitable, sexβsensitive care strategies. doi.org/10.1161/JAHA...

Frontiers | Distinct and content-specific neural representations of self- and other-produced actions in joint piano performance
Cool study! Two pianists, separated in different rooms: one plays right hand part, the other left. Using MPVA it suggests that the premotor cortex is anticipating the other player's hand while M1 sorts out their own. π§ πΆπΉ

Patient-Reported Nonmotor Outcomes After Stroke
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the prevalence, natural history, and factors associated with multidomain nonmotor outcome burden in patients with stroke.
Itβs certainly the most comprehensive meta-analysis Iβve ever been involved with π€
TLDR: non-motor symptoms after stroke are common across domains and guess what? Not a great deal has changed in the last decade. A real wake up call to the field to address this huge unmet need

So agree! While technology has its place, everyday items found in the home can be just as effective in arm stroke rehabilitation. High dosage and repetitive practice is crucial along with the ability to translate motor function gain to ADL.

Talking Tips - Time To Talk Day
Time to Talk Day is all about us being open to the idea of talking. We all have mental health and by having conversations about it, we can help ourselves and
π£οΈ Hereβs how to support someone who opens up about their mental health:
Ask open questions and listen actively.
Use positive body language and pay attention.
Donβt try and fix it.

Great scoping reviewπ. With the number of young strokes increasing it is important to have tailored rehabilitation experiences that are age adapted in acute and social care settings.

Cold hands, altered ownership? We link disturbed body ownership in stroke patients to reduced hand temperature and impaired thermoception. The right Insula & Parietal hubs are key players. We are excited to share our new findings

This black-and-white photo depicts an individual standing in front of a chalkboard, pointing to a detailed diagram of the human brain. Here are the details:
Subject: The person is dressed in a suit jacket, suggesting a formal or academic setting. They are standing to the left side of the image, with their right hand pointing or gesturing towards the diagram on the chalkboard.
Chalkboard Diagram: The diagram on the chalkboard illustrates a cross-section of the brain, with labels indicating various functions and regions:
Lateral R. Hem. (Right Hemisphere) and Lateral L. Hem. (Left Hemisphere) are written on the top left and right respectively.
Various functions are labeled within the brain regions, such as:
"Motor" for motor functions.
"Visual Sens." for visual sensory processing.
"Auditory Sens." for auditory sensory processing.
"Interpreative" for interpretative functions.
"Ideational" for ideational processes.
"Speech" for speech functions.
On this day in 1891, Wilder Penfield was born.
While many know him from his Heritage Minute ("I smell burnt toast!"), Penfield revolutionized neurosurgery and mapped several regions of the brain.
Let's learn more about this great Canadian doctor!
