I would argue that those individuals who only display (what may look like) empathy towards people who share their beliefs, skin color, religion, tribe, etc., aren't displaying empathy at all – they're extending their ego.
I am a psychiatrist. MAGA involvement is the best shorthand for assessing an empathy deficit.
The less empathy a person has, the more likely they are to inflict pain, suffering, and death upon others.
