Ha ha classic film
I agree: quietly sinister.
Brilliant isn't it. Wonderful storytelling and character development. Macenzie Crook is a genius.
What did you think? I remember it being well made with some memorable visuals.
Tonight. In Chelmsford. Come alongβ¦

Think it just got a 4k physical media release, so might get more attention. Is this the one with Carl McCoy from The Nephilim and a bit part from Lemmy?
Saw it years ago, seem to remember it's very creepy in places.
Maybe because when they first came out they were truly unique, alongside the Romero films. The uk video nasties era also adds to the mystique.
Not seen this one but I do like a bit of Fulci, specially the zombie classics.
Never got round to this but I hear good things
Absolutely!
Carpe Diem, baby!
Is the English equivalent Slutty Fish n Chips? Doesn't quite work.
Probably my favorite Bond film, certainly up there at the top.
Saw it years ago and seem to remember it's very good. Eastern Promises too.
Excellent interview with Steve J. Shaw of Black Shuck Books! I listened while cooking, and it entertained me all the way through home made veggie moussaka and roast sweet potato soup.

Are you sure you wrote the story and it wasn't actually written by several "little helpers"?
Excellent review.
Is Soho Books still there? That was a great bookshop.
Don't know a great deal about them but always found them fascinating.
Oooh excellent!

Watched a few of these over Christmas. They're really good, very atmospheric and spooky. Especially enjoyed the Aickman and Amis. Thanks to @raynewman.bsky.social for posting.

Article in The Observer, 4th January 2026, describing the podcast Broken Veil, especially the Christmas special and promise of future one off specials and a second series.
Another mention in last Sunday's Observer, by Miranda Sawyer, of the excellent Broken Veil podcast, this time in the look ahead to 2026. Looking forward to future episodes! @gralefrit.bsky.social
Thanks, I shall report back
I'm the same about fantasy. I veer more towards horror or sci-fi or the middle ground with writers like M John Harrison. I'll certainly give it a go.
More messages of this kind is what 2026 needs.
It's like Brigadoon
Great photo. I know that spot well.
Mythago Wood has been on my TBR list for an aeon. Might have to bump it up given your positive experience.
