The Chancellor spoke of ‘fixing the foundations.’

But no foundation is more vital – or more at risk – than nature. It underpins our health, our economy, and our food security.

The government must continue to invest in its recovery: because there is no future without it. 🍃

A swathe of oxeye daisies in full bloom lines the edge of a green arable field, under a blue sky scattered with light cloud. The scene evokes a thriving, balanced countryside where wildflowers and crops grow side by side.

For months, alongside farmers, supporters, and nature groups, we’ve made the case for protecting nature-friendly farming.

Today, we’re pleased to see HM Treasury has listened: the nature-friendly farming budget has been maintained.

This is a crucial step, but nature needs more...

A moment that changed me: I saw my first wild water bear – and snapped out of my despair at the world I was in anguish over the climate crisis, ecological devastation and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But this almost indestructible little creature gave me a lesson in resilience

Well I can totally see where this guy is coming from

A group of campaigners from the RSPB and partner organisations stand in front of the Houses of Parliament, holding bold signs calling for support for nature-friendly farming. One sign reads “Nature can’t afford a pay cut!” while others say “Farm with nature” and “To grow food, we need nature.” Three people wear oversized bird head costumes, and at the centre, a young woman holds a box showing the petition total: 106,744 signatures. The mood is determined and urgent, highlighting public support for protecting nature’s farming budget.

We’ve just delivered a message to Downing Street, backed by over 100,000 of you.‼️

Farmers, NGOs and the public are standing together to demand action.

UK Government, this is a call you can't afford to ignore.

Any cut now would be a disaster for farming and nature.

I'm even wearing a t-shirt with swifts on today, it was meant to be.

All latitude bands have observed unusually warm temperatures over the last three months, except for around the South Pole again

With the state of the world as it is right now, we can all do with a timeline cleanser - and here's the ultimate one, the very Mount Olympus of slow TV: The Great Elk (or Moose, if you're North American) Migration! 🧵

It's an annual Swedish TV event following the migration of elk (Alces alces)

1/ The view from our bedroom window earlier this week was the eerie sight of a blaze across Garth Hill, South Wales.

The weather conditions preceding the fire were extremely dry leaving the grass & bracken to turn to tinder.

Here's a 🧵putting this fire context...

Great work by @joellanos.bsky.social and team! This study highlights the power of eDNA in tracking soil biodiversity - especially earthworms, the unsung heroes of healthy soils. A step forward for precision monitoring in regenerative agriculture! 🌍🪱🔬 #SustainableFarming #SoilScience

Thanks Vicki! As far as I'm aware soil ecoacoustics can't yet identify down to species or ecological category, so eDNA is favourable in that respect

A screenshot of a news story from The Brussels Times. The headline reads: EU nature law passes to restore 20% of Europe's degraded land and sea. Beneath the headline is an image of a bee extracting nectar from a cluster of tall purple flowers. Their bright colour contrasts with the blurred green background of their stems and surrounding grasses. Beneath the image, text reads: The European Parliament finally approved the Nature Restoration law on Tuesday - setting a target for the EU to restore at least 20% of its land and sea areas by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050.

BIG news: EU Parliament passes major nature restoration law 🎉

A huge win for nature, this puts crucial habitats - from forests and grasslands to wetlands and rivers - back on the path to recovery.

An incredible result for BirdLife Europe & the #RestoreNature coalition.

UK risks steep decline without £28bn green economy pledge, Labour warned Business leader says investment in low-carbon economy is ‘absolute minimum’, a view echoed by other experts

In the back and forth over whether the UK can afford £28bn/year of productivity enhancing green investment, I note that one fossil fuel company - Shell - made £22bn in profit last year. The UK can afford £28bn.

If anything, it can't afford not to spend it www.theguardian.com/environment/...
