Blue writing on white background. Quote reads “Everyone deserves quality care in their final stages of life. Yet, too often, terminally ill people spend their last days relying on emergency services and dying on overcrowded hospitals wards. This can and must change.
Blue writing on white abckground. Reads: “This framework must deliver real, tangible change, particularly in reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and supporting us as the sector to ensure care is available where people want and need it. Once this framework is shared, action must be swift. We are ready to work with the Government to help shape this reform.
Blue writing on a white background reads:
“Our ecosystem for palliative and end-of-life care is part of the solution. Working together to deliver more specialist care in the community and in Sue Ryder Alongside Suites within hospitals, ensuring more people can die in the place of their choosing, with the dignity and support they deserve.” attributed to James Sanderson, Chief Executive Sue Ryder
Today, Care Minister Stephen Kinnock has announced plans for a new framework for palliative and end-of-life care. The plans will look to provide more consistent high quality care, closer to home and with better out-of-hours support.

Text reading "Around 8% of the people referred to our hospices die before they can be admitted, suggesting that referrals are made too late. Healthcare professionals should be thinking about how palliative care can benefit their patients from the moment they receive a terminal diagnosis, not just the last few days of their life." attributed to James Sanderson, Chief Executive, Sue Ryder
We support today's call from @rcphysicians.bsky.social for a public campaign & national strategy for end-of-life care.

Quote card with the words from James Sanderson, Chief Executive of Sue Ryder: “We all care about how and where we will die and this review is a vital step in making sure everyone gets the care they need at the end of their life."
Quote from Chief Executive, James Sanderson: "Sue Ryder maintains a neutral position on assisted dying, but we are concerned that gaps in care could be leaving some people feeling it’s their only option."
Quote from Sue Ryder Chief Executive, James Sanderson: "Our research found that 77% of people felt that terminally ill people could be forced to consider an assisted death because the end-of-life care they need isn’t available. That must change – no matter how the Bill progresses in its next stages through the House of Lords."
Quote from Chief Executive, James Sanderson: "We are calling for the Government to back our plan for a new ecosystem for palliative care that would mean more people can die with the care and the dignity they deserve.”
Today, MPs voted for the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill to progress to its next stage and for a full review of palliative & end-of-life care within a year - a vital step in ensuring everyone gets the care they need at the end of life. Our CEO @jamescsanderson.bsky.social comments:

Quote from Sue Ryder's Chief Executive, James Sanderson, which reads: "How palliative and end-of-life care is funded and delivered must be reviewed. While the recent capital investment for the sector was very much welcomed, it’s not a long-term solution to the funding challenges hospices across the UK face."
Quote from Sue Ryder's Chief Executive, James Sanderson, which reads; ""Right now, hospice care isn’t available to everyone who needs it. But where it is available, it ensures people can die with the care and compassion they deserve. We want to work with Government to establish new models of care, that are fairly funded by the sector and Government. The NHS 10-Year Plan is a key opportunity to consider this."
Quote from Sue Ryder's Chief Executive, James Sanderson, which reads: ""The NHS 10-Year Plan is a key opportunity to consider this. Sue Ryder is calling for dedicated spaces to provide hospice care within or alongside hospitals. These “Alongside Suites” would provide peaceful and dignified care for terminally ill people away from busy hospital wards. They would support wider NHS targets, provide excellent value to the Government and NHS through existing funding streams and reach more people who need expert palliative care.”
2/2 We are pleased to see these discussions continuing, and as our Chief Executive @jamescsanderson.bsky.social explains, we want to work with the Government to establish new models of care that are fairly funded and can reach more people in need of palliative and end-of-life care.

Why regret is bad for your health, according to a GP
Regret is a feeling of disappointment or sadness about something that we have done or failed to do - here's how to stop
You may have felt regret for a fleeting moment, but it can also be a sticky emotion which can hang around for years, decades or even a lifetime 😣
Why regret is a wasted emotion and how to get past it

Many of the arguments cited for the need for reform are strong, especially around issues of duplication and too many layers of bureaucracy. But the necessary complexity of the NHS and the significant effort that goes into running it should not be underestimated
