The Weans : Nathan, Robert, 1894- : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive 56 p. 22 cm

This reminds me of an old book by Robert Nathan called โ€œThe Weansโ€.

A satirical book written from the perspective of an archeologist from the future, who finds remnants of a people who called themselves Us (the U.S.), hence โ€œWe-ansโ€.

Europe and elsewhere by Mark Twain Free eBook digitized and proofread by volunteers.

If youโ€™ve seen references to Twainโ€™s โ€œThe War Prayerโ€ during the early days of this new war, here is a copy of it from Project Gutenberg @gutenberg.org

Itโ€™s at the end of the book. Give it a read!

Letโ€™s hear from the person who pushed for wars in the middle east for decades, but has now changed his mind because heโ€™s embarrassed by Trump. Still focused on monetizing his wrong opinions and telling everyone to listen to him because heโ€™s smarter than they are. Live Sunday.

No problem, sure thing, no worries- these are less formal and a way of fighting back against authority and the structured formality of previous generations and expectations.

It signifies that the help was not an inconvenience in a slang and less formal way of communicating.

28.02.2026 00:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It is both generational and cultural. Historically in the U.S. it was expected that someone would help you, hence โ€œyou are welcomeโ€.

Later generations, starting with GenX, rejected that framing and began to take back that control, and started using different words than โ€œyouโ€™re welcomeโ€.

28.02.2026 00:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Not really.

Thank you means โ€œthank you for your effortsโ€.

Youโ€™re welcome means โ€œyou are welcome to have my effortsโ€.

No problem/worries means โ€œit was not a big deal that I gave you my effortsโ€. This brings the control back to the person giving their efforts. It is not owed, it is given.

28.02.2026 00:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Because โ€œyou are welcomeโ€ implies โ€œyou are welcome for my effortsโ€, that you are owed my efforts. It is not just a bit of politesse, it is a cultural hierarchy. Itโ€™s generational, sure. No problem/worries detaches it from that hierarchy.

And Iโ€™m an elder GenX. Old and young people annoy me. ๐Ÿคฃ

27.02.2026 23:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 4 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Thatโ€™s the same problem that others have with Youโ€™re welcome. With โ€œyouโ€™re welcomeโ€, it feels like something is owed to the person saying thank you. No problem and no worries means, it was not an issue to do the thing you said thank you for. Like โ€œde nadaโ€.

27.02.2026 23:06 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Was really just noting that:

No worries is another version of No problem

and

No worries <> Youโ€™re welcome

I prefer no worries. YMMV

Gโ€™day mate!

No worries.

Yes, this!

And same goes for the ex-Republicans who lead us, actively, to this moment and are now embarrassed by Trump and say they stand against things that they previously supported with all their might.

Interesting coming from the guy who gave tech bros a blank check, supports crypto, and is feted by billionaires. Accountability is *the* most critical aspect of the next administration, but I want Dems who helped get us here to acknowledge their role otherwise I don't trust a fucking word.

27.02.2026 18:44 ๐Ÿ‘ 15 ๐Ÿ” 5 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

One might think that Ken Martinโ€™s โ€œgood billionairesโ€ are not interested in this type of investment.

There is plenty of money for this, though it would impact many Dem consultants and elected Dems who are multi-millionaires, along with Dem know-it-alls like George Clooney.

This is a real opportunity for Democrats, but they actually have to show up. And no, that doesnโ€™t mean co-opting the rightโ€™s language or chasing their culture wars. Economic populism is where itโ€™s at!

Sure! That Hakeem Jeffries is really killing it today! Emphasis on killing. This should not be difficult to stand against, but here we are.

I think these types of problems that you highlight are only going to continue to increase in number as we feel more impacts from climate change in different areas.

The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

Shouldnโ€™t you be talking about how Joe Biden is old and his administration didnโ€™t treat you with the kind of respect and access that you thought you deserved?

Worried about the surveillance dystopia? There are ways to disguise yourself from facial recognition systems, and it doesnโ€™t require owning clothes with a special design or high-tech gear. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

Your +1 Letter of Stern Wordiness is probably not going to kill the Evil King, Ken.

I donโ€™t know. Maybe you could tryโ€ฆfighting, for a change? Worth a try. You know, like an opposition party.

Not just AI. In many ways, technology in general has been invading our spaces/things for some time and is just as unneeded as AI.

I've seen a bunch of responses to the Draper profile of MTG complaining about her pushing ahead a bill that restricts gender-affirming care for minors. This is a misunderstanding of what she's doing. www.thebulwark.com/p/why-marjor..

MTG hasn't become a progressive. She hasn't changed her mind on abortion, or trans rights, or foreign policy. But anyone asking her to do that is missing the point.

She helped pass a billโ€”which is 100% part of liberalism. Maybe you don't like the bill. Maybe the bill will hurt some people and have bad outcomes. But that's part of liberal democracy.

This is why I donโ€™t trust the "Never Trump" Bulwark guys. Theyโ€™re perfectly comfortable with real people being harmed, so long as the harm comes via a process they can label โ€œliberal democracy.โ€

The early web was driven by curiosity & openness, not monetization.

Audrey Witters reflects on that era, using her now-famous animated alien GIF as an example of how playful, freely-shared work helped shape digital culture & why preserving it matters.

Opinion | Obama Supported It. The Left in Canada and Norway Does. Why Donโ€™t Democrats?

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

So, he was fine with the overt racism, misogyny, and constant lies of the Republicans up until Trump? I am not sure that makes him honest, but I understand that you are friends with someone who didnโ€™t think all of that was a deal breaker until Trump came along.

Happy he is seeing the light now.
