For many Black women, the Target boycott is not over. It may never be. A faith leader announced the end of a yearlong “Target fast,” but many Black women who helped launch the boycott say the movement wasn’t his to call off.

We spoke to Black women who started the Target boycott & who sustained it for a yr+. They'll likely never go back.

Teacher Laverne Mickens put it like this: “[Black women] will say if & when it’s over. And I can tell you right now: That will be the 15th of never ever.”

That Norman Rockwell freedom of speech painting with the guy standing up to speak and all the men looking adoringly at him while the woman gives him side eye (quite rightly as the real guy was arguing not to fund education in his town or some nonsense).

When I am given the option to ‘continue’ it should mean to continue with what *I* was doing, not what the website/app/device wants me to be doing.

The STEM Paradox: Why Are Muslim-Majority Countries Producing So Many Female Engineers? There is a larger proportion of women studying and pursuing STEM careers in developing, Muslim-majority countries than in the U.S.

Absolutely. And other countries, including Muslim-majority ones, are doing better at getting women into STEM bc they actually have more support from family & school environments for it. slate.com/human-intere...

At a women in STEM event today, someone bemoaned the lack of women doing computer science. At tea, a young women who had left the AI/tech world told me this: “it’s just full of men lying about how good they are & constantly competing”. Just maybe the problem is with tech culture & not the women… 🤔

Bridging the Divide on Firearm Policy is a new effort dedicated to bridging the gap on gun regulation.

Over a year, it brought together leaders in gun violence prevention and gun rights spaces, in the hopes that they could find mutually acceptable gun reform ideas.

It worked: thetr.ac/AoRup

Every month the United States provides even more reason to boycott its products and companies — the strikes on Iran being just the latest.

In light of that, it’s a great time to ditch the products and services of US tech companies. I made a comprehensive guide to help you.

Laws restricting abortions linked to rise in 'abhorrently high' maternal mortality rates Rising state-level abortion restrictions in the United States were linked to a similar, parallel rise in maternal deaths from 2005 to 2023, according to research presented at The Pregnancy Meeting. ...

Researchers have found that 6 of 10 abortion restrictions — bans on Medicaid funding for abortion, mandated waiting periods, 2nd-trimester abortion bans, ACA marketplace insurance coverage bans, biased counseling laws, and ultrasound requirements — were linked to higher rates of maternal mortality.

I was almost Lara, after a character in Dr. Zhivago. Georgia was 2nd choice, but my dad heard Willie Nelson's Georgia On My Mind in the waiting room and so when the nurse asked him about my name, after my mom was out from the c-section, he said Georgia ☺️.

There are ways as a designer, design researcher, or technologist to deal with this. I talk about that.

The most important one is to stop trying so hard to make a business case for your work before you really understand how decisions are being made. It will comes across as a threat or an annoyance.
