I also love doing this as a CRE. It one of the fastest way to getting folks to that βAH HA!β for experiencing the power of one decent SLO. Bonus points if it also happens with Eng and Product during a service review and folks start getting it how itβs the starting point of several conversations.
Those ears!!
Truly enjoyed listening to this version of the Prodcast. I love @sfurino.bsky.social's passion for systems and how we can codify service expectations to ensure customer happiness (my paraphrasing, don't @ Sal).
My statement on Donald Trump's threat to deport me and his praise for Eric Adams, who the President "helped out" of legal accountability.
Donald Trump is attacking me because he is desperate to distract from his war on working people. We must and we will fight back.
βIf youβre an engineer and youβre not measuring the happiness of your users and people using the system and youβre just measuring the health of the system you built, what are you doing?β

Certainly an update on SLOs with all the changes to telemetry and observability over the last 10 years.
More applications of good SLIs, beyond golden signals
Also more advice, lessons learned, and case studies on how to implement SRE practices and cultures and less of βexercise left to the readerβ

"If a dashboards takes more than 90 seonds to understand, it's bad" (from @sfurino.bsky.social) - That's actually a pretty good summary and a good rule of thumb to review existing dashboards and build new ones!
You need to be scheduled before you can get cancelled.
When I saw her outfit my first thought was βthis is what Chappell would wear if she sung metal not popβ the second thought was βdamn hazel is going to slay this talkβ and then she did.
There was another really good one, when you modulated your voice, but alas my fingers didnβt snap it in time. But I was ready for the others!

Hey internet whatβs your favorite way to eat a potato?
Hulu cutting out while streaming the Oscarβs in the final awards is exactly why reliability is the most important feature of any product. Itβs necessary to be aware of how your uses experience your software and take automated actions in realtime to mitigate. #reliability #SRE #SLOs
Coming tomorrow, the next episode of the @voidincidents.bsky.social podcast.
You beat me to the error budget comment! Wishing you well on the mend liz
Not looking forward to the next four years of waking up every morning and finding out how things are getting progressively worse.
Clearly itβs virtue signaling to the glorious el Cheeto himself.
This article is fantastic. Informative and also had me laughing out loud in the office like a crazy person.
Whenever I find my self talking with folks about how cold the weather is I Instantly view it as a challenge to see how many time I can quote Frozen before they notice or say something.
Here's where I feel SLOs really shine! As the volume on your services jumps up and increases unexpected you can scale only on the necessary services that are providing a sub-par experience for your userbase.
Sure you can just scale up to accommodate, but how much and how quickly while not increasing your cloud spend by orders of magnitude is always the tricky bit.
It's also important to recognize when your competitors are having an outage or get banned from operating in a certain geo-location. You can expect that those users still want that same or similar experience regardless of who's providing it.
Especially for those folks who are in competitive markets, it's important to remember that you need to measure how your competitors are preforming to inform your own reliability targets, because your user's may start expecting that same experience from you as well!
Remember it's not your engineering, product or business teams that set your reliability targets, IT'S YOUR USERS!
Hey Tanya, @matthewsanabria.dev and I organize a Platform Engineering New York meetup. We would love to cross promote and potentially help out where possible. We also both like speaking too. Would you be open to chatting with both of us?
