Very much enjoyed Ramses: Pharoahs’ Gold exhibition in London yesterday. Wonderful objects from The Egyptian Museum Cairo, including this colossal head of Ramses II.

I was then very junior, but Dame Margaret seemed very determined, a person who made things happen using various methods of persuasion. She set up the National Railway Museum & what was then called the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, Bradford. Not a lady to be crossed.

Was there when the motor bike leaving gift was wheeled into the carpeted reception area in front of Dame Margaret’s office. She was delighted!
