“You Are The Land,” a new illustrated book written and illustrated by Steph Littlebird, shares the joy of a child exploring her relationship with her family, her community and the land.
The author of The Ministry of Time, Kaliane Bradley, has a Cambodian mother and she was a refugee. She used that background for the novel and it's fascinating. Graham Gore from 1847 is confused and then charmed. "Internally Displaced Person" is a phrase used that has darker and darker meanings.
That sounds fun!
"I am trapped in a horror novel" is a great direction to go. One of my characters says "great sci-fi novel, terrible reality."

#TimeTravelAuthors D13 Cultures. In the original novel the Narrator's mother is a Cambodian refugee. Their family is Buddhist. I've kept a small strand of this, a box of beautiful fabrics is found, the MC has a meditation practice as taught by his grandmother. He is 1/4 Asian which others can see.

This is described in the novel I write fanfic for! Arthur’s father never tells him that he was dragged off the ice in a metal mesh net through the time door. The other contemporary Graham describes it to him in detail and poor Arthur is so, so sorry about it. Something he never wanted to know.
The Diplomat always needs to have a place to duck into if the Forces of Opposition show up, which did happen in Seattle. He ended up in the Cambodian consulate instead.
40 years in Chicago made me a Cubs fan, and we try to make a game when we travel. Amtrak from Portland to Seattle is great. We will see a Mariners Cubs game in August we hope!
The aides for the Diplomat from the Future are suggesting a baseball game because there is so much baseball metaphor in North American English. He now knows every bartender around T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

In the novel, the Ministry of Time, Graham Gore is abducted from 1847 in the Arctic by using a metal net thrown through a door of the time machine. He is dragged into present day London, England.

I happen to be working on a little horror story myself, to my huge surprise.

Hand out treats! Talk about the characters, or the times, or if you did research or what inspired you. Many of us are on that road and crave conversation about it.
They are struggling. But, they are also hopeful. It's been misery for forty years. And the Iranian diaspora has changed the world. Those strong families live everywhere now. And they are doctors and nurses everywhere. Which I have fun with in my stories. Canada, especially, diplomats and judges.
