Pretty sure immiserating is a word. It means to put people in misery. Google's spellcheck does not know that word or the infinitive immiserate. :(

You're right. Canada has a terrible problem with measles right now (and for the last two years) despite not having RFJ Jr. to blame it on.
They are the North American equivalents of the Taliban and Boko Haram. Knowing *they* exist, we can't just say "That doesn't make sense." There are dark and painfully human motivations operating here.
I hope your optimism here is borne out by human choices over the next few years. If people are willing and able to learn from bitter experiences, we can turn this problem around. My main fear is that there are powerful forces in society who do not want high infant and child survival.
If the goal of the entire exercise is to make certain vendors as rich as you can, that outcome makes sense. :( More and more it seems like all Doug's appointees take it as their mission to be as corrupt as Doug, all the way down the line.
It's surprising to me that bullying conservative leaders can't decide whether lakefront airports need to be illegally expanded or illegally closed. I guess it depends on who is paying for it. RIP CGX Meigs Field 1948-2003.
The good thing about all 3 of those things is that 1) they aren't controlled by Trump or Putin and 2) they can be improved incrementally. And each improvement yields resilience that will help us survive the next "unexpected" war for fossil fuel supremacy.
I just got my net metering working on 22 February! It was nearly a year ago that we signed the contract with the installer, but I was glad to get it signed before the various petrogangster governments here could further increase tariffs on the panels.
Recommended now for anyone who goes to Trinidad or Guyana... I bet most don't!
Sounds like field work has brought you to some interesting places?
Given the measles mess in US and Canada, I'd say that's a good situation. I'm OK with the fact that I've only had two because 1) my immune system tends to be pretty high-strung 2) my second MMR was much later than yours.
Oddly specific description. :)
"I'm blue collar because I've been sent to a sports event in hopes of a riot occurring. I drive an old car but no one knows it's electric."
Subject to confirmation, I should have said.

And sure enough, Hegseth and his "unrestrained ferocity" gongfarmers bombed a desalination plant. I wonder how a shortage of drinking water harms the ruling regime, or helps the citizens build a post-theocracy alternative?
Beaches folks, please share BBQ facilities with your neighbours!

Note for Canadians 40-56 years old -- as a kid you probably got only a single dose of Measles/Mumps/Rubella vaccine, as was the standard at the time, but in retrospect that single dose leaves you much less protected decades later. If you haven't already, look into a booster!
Me! I need it. I need it all. I barely need anything else. :)
Let's not assume that's not plan B. Of course he'd rather enslave people than kill them...
What do you drive?
^^ You were speaking of air resistance impact here and I didn't mean to ignore it. Yes, it's amazing how much range I can get on non-freeway roads where the speed limit might be 60 or 80 km/h!
Bingo!! Less energy, regen braking, and no exhaust spewed into the air of the city! Only thing better is a subway or an e-bike. :)
Tragedy frequently *is* getting what one asks for.
I know there are people who drive that far just to get to their jobs, but it really isn't common. 90 minute commute, much more common.
The specific business he has done since he finished grad school is oil and gas extraction. If he made violins for a living or ran a chain of hotels he'd be a better Secretary of Energy (and the name of the role is fairly unrelated to what SecEnergy actually does, anyway.)
He's a 61 year old guy, 34 years into a career in shale oil and gas fracking. This is a side career for a few years, helping end democracy in the US and make the western hemisphere permissive of his long-term goals. Trump's cabinet were chosen to ensure they know nothing about their "jobs."
Personal violence, by hand, when provoked, is the least problematic aspect of these characters. But I'll still like to see it, because maybe he'd trip going over the desk...
Your examples make me think of all the journalists and other non-technical people who talk about how many watthours of energy something consumes or produces every hour...
I drive a 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric. Great car, hope to drive it for another 15 years. I won't sell it but there are some on the market.
I came to say this but you did it better, and first. I can only add that the *cost* of that smaller amount of energy can often be reduced by charging the car overnight (or whenever demand is low relative to supply where you are.)
