To anyone struggling to make their art:

THEY WANT YOU TO STOP WRITING/PAINTING/MAKING.

They fear our rich inner lives, beyond even their reach. They fear our revolutionary fantasies, our ungovernable and unprofitable thoughts.

Yes, the obstacles are greater than ever.

So is the need.

Y’all gotta go read books. There’s no way around it.

Wow the exact thing genAI creators intended, for their users to become psychologically dependent and chemically addicted to their product, is happening, who could have seen this coming

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

The USPS is an incredibly important service we tend to take for granted. Shipping one of my mugs through them is around $10. Shipping them with any private company is more than double that price. Small business need the USPS.

Establishing the President's Make America Healthy Again Commission By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, itΒ isΒ hereby ordered: Section 1.

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a β€œdire threat to the American people and our way of life”.

This is a manifesto against disability.

This is the language of eugenics.

You know what I need from virtual SFF cons? I need a panel where all the authors show off their set up. Give me advice on desks, chair recs, show me your cool monitor, how'd you get those bookshelves so perfectly in the background, what mic/headphones are you using. Help me and my chaos office out!

The bottom line is that if public health had stopped lying years ago and had been honest about the costs, and if public health had realized what the correct approach is, which is to slow evolution down, then we would have been in a situation today where public health was treating COVID as a disease that needs to be suppressed.
The whole canard from day one was that we would never eliminate or eradicate it, so, let's let it spread as widely as possible. "Learn to live with it," for other diseases doesn't mean the same thing as we have applied to COVID. When we say we must learn to live with leprosy, we don't mean let's make sure everybody has leprosy. When we say we must learn to live with malaria, we don't mean let's make sure everyone gets malaria as often as possible, let's keep mosquitoes lurking in our tanks outside our house. No one says you must learn to live with tuberculosis. Let's let it spread as much as possible and see how that goes.
No, we suppress those diseases every step along the way. We suppress dengue. We suppress tuberculosis.
This whole idea that learning to live with the disease means permitting and encouraging its rampant spread and rapid evolution is just so many levels of stupidity that I don't have a word for it.

A book cover! The art is by Tyler Miles Lockett. A twinkling night sky and verdant set of hills part to reveal some unusual figures. Heracles, in the middle of a wardrobe malfunction, struggles to keep a giant lion aloft on his shoulders. The lion nuzzles and licks at him like a house cat, while Heracles looks befuddled. In the distance, night casts shadows over a giant statue of Hera, standing over her house of worship, almost like she is watching Heracles and the lion. Text on the cover reads: JOHN WISWELL. WEARING THE LION.

Unveiling my second novel: WEARING THE LION.

This himbo hero Heracles, Hera's biggest fan, collects a menagerie of monsters in pursuit of the god who destroyed his family.

The trouble? Hera is responsible, and she'll do anything to hide the truth.

This is still my advice: Become a writer anyway. Fuck it, do it, it won't save you, but it's still a beautiful dream to write novels and short stories and poems and mingle with other dreamers and make art and laugh in the face of death. And writing is constant death. Live mΓ‘s.
