I live in Kentucky, and I can tell you that Thoroughbred horse farms owned by millionaires get Farm Bill subsidies because they are "small family farms."

A DOGE staffer assigned to the National Endowment for the Humanities to flag grants for "DEI" tries to explain what "DEI" is. This deposition is part of a lawsuit by the @acls1919.bsky.social, @historians.org and @modernlanguage.bsky.social.

You know the best way to kill AI? Don't use it. Don't buy it. Don't share it. Don't give the people who use it your labour or your money.

If gender were the immutable biological reality they claim to believe it is, they wouldn't need to spend so much energy policing it like this.
When Rubio is a presidential candidate, folks need to remember this π‘
I recently got the CostLow app, which tells you what is on clearance at your warehouse. Highly recommend it
It only makes sense to believe the victim. He lies every time he opens his damn mouth about every little thing, consequential or no
It was going on one, two in the morning, and we were shooting what I felt was an important scene for me, when he makes an attempt to be quote-unquote straight, in a suit, and at the end of it he gets emotional and locks himself in the other room. And I felt like, Iβm not getting what I wantβIβm not happy with it. Mike was happy with it. He called me the next day and said, βI know you werenβt happy with the scene last night. Believe me, we wouldnβt have gone home if I had felt we werenβt getting it.β And then he sort of became my psychiatrist and said, βYou find it difficult to be happy, donβt you? You find it difficult to enjoy things.β And I said, βWell, sometimes. Last night was about feeling too tired and not feeling I was reaching what I needed to reach for the scene.β He talked to me then about when he was making, I donβt know whether it was Virginia Woolf or The Graduate. He said, βI didnβt enjoy it for a second. I was worried about so many things.β And then he said, βYou know, this is never going to happen again quite this way. You should try to allow yourself to enjoy this more. Take a minute a day, and then add a minute the next day, and another minute. Pretty soon, youβll have hours of happiness.β
The Birdcage opened thirty years ago today, so in its honor, I want to share one of my favorite stories about Mike Nichols that didn't make it into my biography. This is from an interview I did with Nathan Lane.
Many MAGA Kentuckians identify as capital-s "Southern" without realizing that Kentucky never even belonged to the Confederacy. During the push to move Confederate statues out of public spaces, there was a big "muh heritage" outcry and it's just so stupid. Y'all, Kentucky literally joined the Union π«€
Iranβs people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.
My kid found this great fossil in eastern Kentucky today. Looks like a bryozoan? #rocksky #fossil #Kentucky
Abolish ICE is the moderate position.
Millions of people who have to balance their own checkbooks are so much smarter than these tech geniuses
According to my MAGA relatives, I'm a godless communist who is suffering from Trump derangement syndrome
Why does @theatlantic.com give this BS a platform?
This is Albie. He was so touched by his family singing happy birthday in his native language that he didn't notice the cupcakes with his face on them. 13/10 hbd Albie #SeniorPupSaturday (TT: _sallyv)
And I'm glad I did, even now, but I'm stunned to learn that the extended family and their friends are all still fully MAGA, despite everything that has been revealed. They'll never believe any news that is critical of Trump. It's just so depressing and sad and demoralizing. --end--
Their takeaway from my going low-contact was that I hate them, which isn't true at all--I am caring for the surviving spouse because she is family and I'll always love her. I went low-contact so their granddaughters would know at least one adult who believes in civil rights and reject MAGA . . .
I can confidently say that neither of these family members has regrets about being MAGA, and neither do the rest of their MAGA friends and family. There's no FAFO here. My absence at holiday gatherings since he was reelected is evidence that I am a heartless atheist communist. . . .
And even now that it's obvious MAGA is an unhinged destructive force bent on destroying the US, they still support Trump. Anyone who doesn't--me--is a victim of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Having had a look at their private messages and trying to sort out their affairs . . .
My FIL passed away unexpectedly in a car crash that also severely injured my MIL, and she needs a lot of help. I would never wish this on my worst enemy, and although I was low-contact, I've been helping make funeral arrangements, etc., so I've seen both their text messages and FB pages . . .
π§΅I went low-contact with some MAGA family members when Trump was elected the second time because they voted for him twice with no regard for their granddaughters' future. I'd wondered if they regretted electing him since, and this week, I figured something out. . . .
Our kid goes to forest school and she got 2-3 tick bites per week until we started using permethrin-treated clothes. We either buy pretreated clothes from insectshield.com or send them our own clothes and they treat them for a fee. Lasts 70 washes and kiddo never gets bites now!
Well, gas is expensive, and food is expensive, and weβre doing a war nobody wants, but at least there are no jobs
