A project of @Interreg North-West Europe (NWE)
MultiRoofs recently hosted two focus groups in Rotterdam β¨
One with municipal policy makers, another with housing organisations, developers & the regional water agency.
Participants tested the first features of the draft MultiRoofs tool and shared feedback shaping the next development steps.
What if the solution to urban challenges was right over our heads? ποΈ
On 28β29 Jan 2026, Virginie Verstraete & Gert Hilgers spotlighted #MultiRoofs as a key lever to align urban planning, sustainability & digital innovation at the OASC Annual Conference in FundΓ£o.

MultiRoofs took part in the Interreg Climate Adaptation Event in Utrecht, bringing together European stakeholders working on climate adaptation and urban resilience π‘
Partners Gemeente Rotterdam and Rooftop Revolution joined, sharing collaborative approaches to strengthen urban climate resilience.
A warm thank you to all participants, and to our Brussels hosts, for two days of collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose!
From discussions at FARI to inspiring exchanges at BruCity, the meeting reinforced our joint ambition to make multifunctional rooftops a cornerstone of greener, more resilient, and inclusive cities.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming Luka Messmer, our Project Officer from Interreg North-West Europe (NWE), who opened the meeting and shared valuable insights about the programmeβs expectations and long-term vision.
π Reviewed outcomes of recent strategy sprints and coordinated the next steps with all working groups.
Over the two days, we:
π‘ Defined a shared vision and roadmap for the first prototype of the MultiRoofs tool.
π£ Discussed our communication and marketing strategy to enhance visibility and engagement.
MultiRoofs aims to make better use of urban #rooftops - turning them into multifunctional spaces that combine green, energy, social, & circular uses. By connecting data, expertise, and local authorities, the project helps cities design & implement more sustainable and resilient rooftop strategies.
The MultiRoofs consortium met this week in Brussels, Belgium!
Hosted by @faribrussels.bsky.social (VUB/ @ulbruxelles.bsky.social ) and the Ville de Bruxelles - Stad Brussel, the two-day workshop gathered our partners from across North-West Europe to discuss progress and next steps for the project.
Together, we are developing tools, training, and real-life examples so that more communities can benefit from their rooftops.

π€ Our partnership brings together 14 organisations across Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands:
π Our mission: to explore and develop innovative ways to use urban rooftops. By turning unused roofs into spaces for energy, biodiversity, water management, and social activities, we help make cities and regions more sustainable, resilient, and liveable.
