My born-in-1910 dad wore Florsheims.
The dead eyes are the biggest tell. Nothing going on in there except hate and money-counting.
Up on the WVU Press blog today: Connective Tissues series editor Renee Nicholson's vintage style and how it connects to her health (she wears the cutest vintage outfits!): booktimist.com/2026/03/09/o...
OMG THANK YOU!!!!
Nellie's got Nellie Olsen vibes.
I love how this year's @marchxness.bsky.social is mostly Gen Xers writing about our '90s youths. That will always be my favorite.
My essay about the summer of '97, Cat Power, and my metal heart is up on marchxness.com. Vote!
I owned every Lou Barlow lo-fi bedroom recording in the '90s on cassette or CD. Don't even with this shit.
The text inside the NO IT DOES NOT book is from my novel Epic and Lovely.
Do my pals at WVU Press a favor and go buy some of theirbooks if you're at AWP so they don't have to ship them all back to Morgantown. That's a pain.
Can you get all that filler and shit removed or are you stuck with it even after you get cast out of the cult? Does it degrade over time?
Geraldine's in Columbia City.
I'm thinking of going to AWP next year for no other reason than it's in Chicago and I want to go to Sawa's Old Warsaw Buffet.
I remember my dad, who died in 1992, telling me that the US must never drop a bomb on Iran. That would start WWIII. That it would be the worst international disaster humanity would ever witness.
Shouts on Rare Disease Day to my fellow Marfanoids! Except for that one guy.
I wrote this novel about our shared affliction: annieblooms.com/book/9781959...

Can I sue the craven old white lady who leaves her stank coochie smell all over the restroom before shrieking "you're a man!" underneath a stall door at someone who just needs to pee and is not befouling the air with their partially-digested McNugget farts and rank bigotry? Can I?
My Cat Power "Metal Heart" essay goes up against The Cranberries on 3/9.
Also, I've never submitted a bracket because I don't know how brackets work. (My dad died when I was a kid, both husbands were/are not sport guys, I hate asking for help, it's all about the writing, I don't know...)

A customer gushed about this one and though I rarely pick up a thriller, this one is pretty good.
Today I had a 97-year-old customer who very proudly told me the best book she's read in her 97 years of life is Theo of Golden.
She lived through the golden age of publishing.
Theo of Golden.
I wonder if Serj would let me read cups at his coffee shop. I'm a wise Armenian matriarch.

Chicken in a Biskit crackers. Like breaking open a bouillon cube and eating it. Mmm.
LOL.
Some Smith alum who attended my Austin reading ripped their name out of their copy of Epic and Lovely and is selling it for $14 as some sort of special signed copy.
Get you a discounted, damaged copy of my book?

A customer came in for Theo of Golden and walked out with Epic and Lovely!!!!!
Come to Portland, city of introverts who don't want to be around people and are extremely proud of themselves to the point of making merch! (I miss LA.)
Love Story: JFK Jr and Carolyn is worth it just for the massive '90s nostalgia trip. I didn't think the story was that compelling, though. I was kind of hoping it would turn into a Mad Men reboot in the '90s, with JFK as Don Draper. That would have been better.
It’s Sylvia’s death day, for all who observe.
Whaaaaat?!??
