Three treehopper bumps on a twig. One is smaller than the other two. One big one is facing right, stepping over the smaller one. The other big one is also facing right but on the side of the twig facing us so all that’s visible is its back. The nymphs are mostly black with 5 spikes on its pronotum, tinted red. The edges of the pronotum are also red. The abdomen has yellow spots.

Extreme macro of a rove beetle’s head from the genus Ontholestes. The surface is densely covered in golden and silvery hairs. Prominent, oval-shaped compound eyes sit on either side of the head. Fine antennae and bristly mouthparts extend downward.

The White-marked Tussock Moth (Orgyia leucostigma) caterpillar is hard to miss—those bright red glands and bushy tufts are a warning. This species uses urticating hairs for defense, which can irritate human skin. A striking example of Lepidoptera strategy.

One of those moths that screams don’t touch me absolutely stunning in an alien critter kind of way. The caterpillar of Orgyia leucostigma flaunts bold colors and urticating hairs as a warning. Nature’s way of saying “look, but no touch”
