If you've ever seen the schematics on the Enterprise D, you know it is HUGE. Like, city in space huge.
So once again I return to my Metroidvania idea about a Starfleet task force assigned to visit a derelict Galaxy class cruiser and figure out why it went missing and what happened to the crew.
... With the backlash against The Last Jedi and the attempt to pivot away from it in Rise of Skywalker, which then got rushed into production to meet a holiday deadline and was released undercooked.
Basically, nothing was as well thought through as it should have been.
I did a fair amount of research into the making of those movies and, near as I can tell, nobody involved had much of a structured plan. They had an outline and trusted the execution to the individual directors (maybe hoping to duplicate the Lucas effect) which kinda went off the rails...
Watch Lucas in interviews. He doesn't seem like a lighthearted guy. Much of the humor in the OT comes from other directors or the energy of the actors.
Plus Marcia Lucas and whoever ghost wrote that second pass of the dialogue (Larry Kasdan, I think.)
Yeah, the story structure problems are myriad. To me the one that pops immediately was that Qui Gon is totally unnecessary. His function in the story could have been solved by simply aging Obi Wan up AND it would have sorted out the timeline issues by casting older actors
They put me off SW for almost a decade until Rebels reminded me of what I liked about the franchise.
These days I have what I would call a healthy respect for them as artistic achievements, especially in light of the greedy, nostalgia trip-and-fall-on-your-face of the sequels.
I've found that The Prequels (at least TPM) are better approached as art house films than accessible summer blockbusters. You need the same mindset as when you're watching Megalopolis.

That and the classical fame composition and blocking that are so out of place in a more modern film, plus the stiff delivery, feel more natural. Its like you're watching Kurosawa adapt a really obscure sci-fi Manga.
RE: The dialogue. As an experiment I tried watching it in Japanese with English subtitles and it completely changed the experience. Suddenly everything Lucas was trying to do with the movie became obvious.
I like the changes made to the structure of S3. It became a proper prequel and the multi episode arc structure suited it well.

I want to shout out Lanny Poffo, brother of, Macho Man Randy Savage. He had a unique physicality and phenomenal mic work. Shame he wasnt more prolific.
