Snow on Bainbridge Island. It’s not sticking though… #wawx

Former USAID BHA here: thank you for this. I both laughed and cried. About half of my former team are still out of work. People who dedicated their professional lives to humanitarian aid around the world. It’s an atrocity.

Thank you John (and team) for witnessing the lives lost.

We live in a world beyond parody. The United States has had four minesweeper vessels in the Persian Gulf for 35 years. Just yesterday these ships arrived in Philadelphia to be decommissioned, a day before Iran announces that they are mining the Strait of Hormuz.

Once upon a time I was a cybersecurity consultant who did work in the Gulf countries dealing with the risks of Iranian-backed cyberattacks against oil and gas infrastructure in retaliation for Stuxnet.

I kinda wonder how relevant that preparation might be now.

Congrats! Aside from the interesting topic, you’re an engaging speaker… and many people crave authentic expertise and passion and will respond to it!

As a former USAID BHA employee, thank you and John for reporting on what it meant when we lost our jobs.

Being purged from the work that we loved sucked - but knowing that there were going to be (avoidable, unnecessary) deaths was a horror.

On the one-year anniversary of his detention by federal authorities, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and First Lady Rama Duwaji welcomed Mahmoud Khalil, his wife Noor, and their baby boy, Deen, to Gracie Mansion to break the fast together.

Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"

Comic. [Person 1 talking to a person with shoulder-length hair and a person with a white hat.] PERSON 1: I would never get an electric vehicle. Sure, they sound great, but what do you do if the battery runs out of charge? [caption] I felt pretty silly when someone finally explained tome that EVs are rechargeable.

A “special military operation” lol. Straight out of the Russian playbook?

Again, these authorities are the same ones the NSA strategically reinterpreted commonly understood words to mean very different things in order to enable mass surveillance. And OpenAI's agreement is "sure, yeah, obey those same authorities."

OpenAI posted the terms of the deal. Reveals that it absolutely does allow for domestic surveillance. EO 12333 is how the NSA hides its domestic surveillance by capturing communications by tapping into lines *outside the US* even if it contains info from/on US persons.

I was cut from USAID and landed somewhere else. Some of my new colleagues have asked what it was like at that time.

I could have written this article. I don’t know the author, but his story resonates with my own.

The “AI” could be a post-it note saying, “do layoffs”.

Absolutely love this video of two 50 y-o women attempting every Winter Olympic sport (and laughing throughout). This is the #Joy we need to cultivate in our lives.

China's Xinhua news agency has just published this editorial cartoon in response to Trump's rejection of climate policies.

It is pretty clear that China views this as a HUGE geopolitical fumble by the US leaving the field clear for China's to win the global race to clean-tech hegemony

I think people are way more sensitive to how this could be easily repurposed or abused. I wonder why this didn’t come up in the feature design review? (Rhetorical)

So many of the ads last night were for scams: AI scams, crypto scams, online betting. Things that insult the interests of the viewer for impact.

Can we just see ads for real products and things people would actually want? (I miss when it was mostly car ads I guess)

I can't stop thinking about how incredible the Bad Bunny halftime show was, and I haven't even heard him before today.

What an amazing performance, and what a beautiful celebration of love.

My kids are now wondering what evil thing Salesforce has done because they’re using Mr Beast.

My kids have no idea about CRM but they have an immediate aversion to Mr Beast and anything he represents.
