We've had two days stay stuck in the teens so far this winter in Boston. Sunday should make three and will contend for coldest day of winter 2025-26 (current forecast is 16F). #wbz

Sure I'm down to like 8-10" from 24" already
Today is the final day of solar winter, the darkest 3-month period of the year
By next week the sun angle is the same as October, which we affectionately call #SunAngleSzn
Brighter times ahead ๐
Sunsets in Boston are after 5pm starting *tomorrow*. In just over 1 month we'll have daylight at 7pm again. #wbz
Congrats everyone you did it. Above freezing for the first time in 9 days. Longest stretch since 2018 (13 days). #wbz
Ice dams form when there's a bunch of snow on the roof and the meltwater from daytime freezes up at night. We had a ton of them during the snowy 2015 stretch, too
Just the dumbest time to be alive. Not even close
I'll take it!
The next chance to hit the freezing mark in Boston is Monday, and it's not a lock
That would be 9 straight subfreezing. In 2015 our longest was 15 straight. In 2018 we had 13 straight. Record is 16 (1961)
huh? It's already in the 10s and it's not wet
Yeah a much more powerful storm. Hoping it's not a direct hit and more of a grazing because this one mean's business
The weekend one has the potential to be much worse
yep annoying to have it so far after the fact
Tonight's snow just nudged Boston above 20", now putting it into the Top 10 of largest snowfalls on record. #wbz
If you can get around 2 feet in Boston, you've got yourself a very notable snowstorm. It's going to try to get close before all is said and done. #wbz
I'm not sure what seasonal snowfall totals have to do with single storms, but in any case yes 12"+ storms do happen pretty frequently. Nearly 1 a year, on average
Odds of 1"-2"+ per hour rates Sunday evening are #LockItIn territory
This is also when thundersnow will be most likely โ๏ธ โก๏ธ
(6p shown)
Looks like it really starts to fill in/pick up after 2pm at the moment
Probably around an inch per hour
I wouldn't want to be driving around after the Pats game Sunday evening. Some of the heaviest rates of the storm that should be in the 1-2"+ per hour range
Yeah we have most in the 12-20" at the moment with 6-12" closer to the South Coast/Cape
Anticipation building for the Pats and the snow!
Biggest question remains how far north any mixing with sleet gets late Sunday. Most likely on the South Coast, but will have to watch trends over the next 24 hours. #wbz
Was at a conference...back now!
Geomagnetic storm has arrived! On the aurora watch now when there are breaks in the clouds
A G4 level storm can be visible even near city lights, but especially away from bright ambient light
Skies will start clearing more in an hour or two
Yes indeed...once the sun gets higher I stop caring about the cold/snow. You start to get the feeling that it's just a matter of time. That usually kicks in after the 1st week of Feb for me
If you can make it through the next two weeks of winter, you'll be past the worst of it
Short version of what we'll be keeping tabs on for the upcoming weekend. Arctic cold will be here no doubt. The question will be how much (any) snow? That won't be clear for a few more days. #wbz
Entering the winter gauntlet
Coldest air of the season coming this weekend and with it another chance for snow
MLK to Valentine's Day usually apex of winter around here. Definitely looks the case this year

Just rain in Boston...our turn tomorrow
