Preach. I wish my Congresspeople were doing this. Alas, they are rubber stamping the fleecing of America.

That is so hard. My mom is the same age. I'm glad for the assisted living staff, because someone is always there and awake if anything happens. But still, it's hard (and I miss her). Hugs to you both!

That's awful, I'm so sorry!
Really enjoyed this book over the holidays! I LOVED Entwined, and was really glad to find this retelling of The Nutcracker with that same Heather Dixon vibe. m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81b...
Gift-giving holidays are upon us! Check out an interview about my recent book, Luck in Little Joe, and do consider it for the middle grade reader in your life. rosegreenbooks.wordpress.com/2024/11/28/l...

Currently reading Blood Over Bright Haven, by M.L. Wang. This is exactly the kind of fantasy I've missed, I'm so glad that in the past few years, it's been making a comeback!

Either the time a teacher tried to gaslight me into saying I had changed my test answer instead of admitting she had mis-graded my test OR the time I was the only 2nd grader to "fail" the elementary school chorus audition. Who has audition school choirs in elementary? I was nervous--not unmusical.
Ohhh that's pretty!
Honestly, the world is in such commotion, it's been nice to explore Bluesky. FB shows me more random posts than accounts I actually follow, and Twitter is angry. I guess all things have their place--but I also need a place where I can just look at the art accounts I follow and rest my brain.

I loved this picture book so much! if you read one book about kindness this year, pick this one! It reminds me of Arthur Yorinks's book "Company's Coming" from around 15 years ago. Both wonderful!

My continued hopes for Russia to retreat and Ukrainians to have a life of peace and safety.
I have a day job and can't always post multiple things a day. But I spent the last hour scanning illustrator pages here and it was SO RESTFUL! There is a great vibe. Also, accounts I want to follow instead of a million posts from random accounts and advertisers I don't know. Make it stay!

Loving the illustrator presence here and throwing some art into the ring!
Aren't they? They were great as gifts, but now I want to buy one for me...!
Gift giving holidays are coming up! For the middle grade reader in your life, two books: sci fi adventure in Idaho lava tubes (Mind Over Antimatter) and breaking curses and family drama in Texas (Luck in Little Joe). rosegreenbooks.wordpress.com/books/ or order from your favorite bookseller!
This maker of carved rolling pins on Etsy. Located in Ukraine. I ordered a couple as gifts last year and they shipped from Kharkiv. Still got here faster--in the middle of a war!--than things I order from within the US. Incredibly beautiful, and high quality. www.etsy.com/shop/Diamond...
The main guy, for ex., is always very gentle and willing to be vulnerable around the main girl. But as soon as he is with his guy friends, he switches over to a different dynamic--a cool guy exterior. He's still a nice guy, but with each person or group, he code-switches. Real people do that. 2/2
Another bit of good writing is how characters relate to each other. I noticed this particularly in the Chinese drama Hidden Love. The characters not only have distinctive personalities, but they also have distinct relationships with each character. 1/
Plus, adopted daughter Anya (who, unbeknownst to dad Loid, can read minds, and knows he is a spy) wants to help dad succeed so he won't send her back to the orphanage. Sadly, once he accomplishes the job, there will be no more need for the Forger family. 3/3
But, as he works hard to make his disguise convincing, they start to become a real family. He's been a successful spy because he has cut off all feelings and connections. But success at this job requires feelings and connections. It's a character catch-22. 2/
I like to note elements of good writing when reading or watching a storyline. One recent example is a setup like in the cold war anime Spy x Family: In order to accomplish his spy mission, Loid Forger must form a convincing fake family so he can infiltrate the social network of a private school. 1/
Like Deva, I can understand. I wrote so much when my kids were little, swinging on my hair and climbing on me. But since then I've carried so many heavy loads that I just feel depleted. It's very frustrating.
Summer is coming! Grab some middle grade reads now. (Including Luck in Little Joe!)
