Apple selling this for $230 isn't a surprise. People buying it is!

In 4 days, millions will no longer be able to eat, when SNAP benefits cease to exist due to gov't shutdown.
Add to that the millions who will soon no longer have access to healthcare for life-saving needs.
This isn't an ambiguous future state... it's happening now.
I wonder if these 2 things and the trends they reflect are correlated...
Seems like we're protecting our kids from skills & intelligence more than anything.
We used to buy extra groceries for the school when for this reason. We were fortunate enough to afford to do so. Also donated the free giveaways.
These are all examples of how #WeThePeople will fix our communities, our society, and our country while our elected officials continue to fail us.
I'm so saddened by what has become of my beloved #Minneapolis. I recall growing-up in a place of peace, inclusion, and love for everyone. It appears those days are long-gone.
I hope my friends still there continue to fight to return to that time of community.
Will #AI and more particularly, the nefarious use of it lead to a significant decline in advertising more broadly?

If we can't trust ads to be authentic, will they lose their effect? Will that lead to a decline in ad-spending?
What will become of the Superbowl? π
Watching the Blue Origin rocket booster return to earth continually impresses me. Go Engineering!

1/2 of me thinking "Hubris in practice of disrupting the natural order of things."
Was at a Canadian grocery store, 1 of the country's largest last night. # of people openly looking for / discussing buying produce from countries not US was incredible. There were lots of options from other countries; more than I recall.
This can't be good for our US economy.
This ought to be interesting to watch play out. Are shareholders really in charge?

Having faced similar conflagration at our British Columbia home 2 years ago, my heart aches for my friends and colleagues in the LA area.
We're seeing more frequent and larger fires as a result of climate change; I don't think that's debatable (the cause of the change is a separate discussion). π
Hoping all my colleagues and friends in the LA area are safe. Look out for one another.
What a day in North America... a new President ratified, and a Prime Minister resigns.
What's next?

#WeThePeople are the ones to fix the world.
With all the discussion & dismay expressed about private #health #insurance in wake of this week's tragedy, I'm surprised there's not more mention of the #ACA + #medicaid expansion opportunities.
Also wonder if #HR /benefits managers are feeling pressure to react?
Hmmm?!?!?
Not suggesting we remain silent. Just highlighting there are things we can do like sell our shares in companies we don't support, stop shopping at stores we don't support, or in this case, self-insure ourselves. We continue to support systems or orgs we don't like, and then complain about them.
Doesn't that mean then that those of us who are invested in their shares - directly or via retirement / pension plans, etc. - are to blame? How many of us know if our mutual funds / portfolios are those shareholders? Do we have heads in the sand, just wanting returns but blaming the CEOs & Boards?
Wasn't yesterday's tragic murder of Brian Thompson foretold > 20 years ago in "John Q?"
Will we see more of this as private insurers seek balancing demands of shareholders (profits) vs needs of members (care)?
Irony: John Q has origins in Canada.

I'm a bit surprised that the shooting of UnitedHealthcare's CEO - largest health insurer in US - is not dominating the news. With > 50 million members, and 250k employers as clients, it seems like it might be more directly important to many of us than anything.
www.cnn.com/2024/12/04/u...
I feel like we're in the midst of a massive experiment of modernized "natural selection;" time will determine which sets of beliefs in, or dismissals of what we call 'science' will win-out.
Is it a surprise that #healthcare seems "broken" when it consists of 3 stakeholders (patient, provider, payer), yet controlled by only 2 of them? = bad system design. And to be clear, this is universal around the world. "Leaders" in reform are addressing this more than just needs of 1 stakeholder.
As a fellow tribe member, I wonder what is the correct dress code? What don't #pinksocks go with?
Will US #healthcare providers see a correlated dip in activity from #Canadians traveling to US for care as well?
www.paxnews.com/news/buzz/wi...
Not a huge market perhaps, but certainly one that pays top rates for care.
@erictopol.bsky.social continues to be a rational, evidence-based voice of clarity in #healthcare.
It's must be in the name π (jk).
Tough for me to find fault with this π

It's far less expensive to retain than to replace (if you can). And retention is not always about salary.
Targeting the corps is too easy. What about their shareholders who want the high profits? & before anyone responds about large funds, it's those funds so many people's pensions are based in.
#WeThePeople have a role here. Boards & CEOs execute based on shareholders' demands.
This raises the question as to whether or not we will see a (over?) correction with high levels of audit in the near future.
Listening to discussions @ #tariffs & how they will π prices for consumers. Isn't that the point; theory => raising prices on imports => consumers will turn to locally sourced products => spurring jobs at home?
My Q is how quickly? Takes time to tool-up and staff.
Voters have short-time horizons.
Am I the only person here that is happy to be on Bluesky, but a bit leery to "like" posts in order to teach the algorithm what I like? I came in hopes of learning a lot, and not being caught in another echo-chamber.
